Kylie Jenner may have access to just about any coffee order she wants, but lately, one of her most interesting drinks appears to be coming straight from her own kitchen.
Her longtime makeup artist and close friend, Ariel Tejada, has been showing off another talent beyond creating Jenner’s signature glam.
Tejada recently prepared Jenner a picture-perfect salted maple latte, complete with a creamy vanilla topping and cinnamon. The homemade drink looks more like something from a specialty coffee shop than a quick caffeine fix, and the combination of sweet maple, salt, espresso and vanilla makes it especially easy to recreate at home.
It is also part of a bigger coffee moment between the friends. Earlier this year, Jenner revealed that Tejada had gotten heavily into making coffee and was teaching her how to make her own drinks.
So, what exactly is in Kylie Jenner’s salted maple latte, and what makes Ariel Tejada’s coffee recipe different?
Ariel Tejada Makes Kylie Jenner a Salted Maple Latte
In the recent video, Tejada announces the plan simply: “Today we're going to make Kylie a salted maple latte.” The drink is built in layers. According to descriptions accompanying videos of Tejada making the coffee, it starts with a salted maple base, followed by an iced latte, then gets topped with salted vanilla cream. Cinnamon provides the finishing touch.
That makes the drink more sophisticated than simply adding maple syrup to iced coffee. The salt helps balance maple’s intense sweetness, while the vanilla cream gives the drink the thick, dessert-like finish associated with coffee-shop cold foam.
Tejada has not published precise measurements for every component, so any exact tablespoon-by-tablespoon formula would be an interpretation, but the components he showed make it surprisingly simple to create a close version.
Kylie Jenner’s Salted Maple Latte Recipe
To make an at-home version inspired by Tejada’s drink, you’ll need:
- 1 to 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- A small pinch of sea salt
- 2 shots espresso
- ¾ to 1 cup milk of choice
- Ice
- ¼ cup heavy cream or whipping cream
- 1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla syrup
- Another tiny pinch of sea salt
- Cinnamon for topping
Start by stirring the maple syrup with a tiny pinch of salt in the bottom of a glass. This creates the salted maple base Tejada describes.
Fill the glass generously with ice, then pour in the milk and freshly brewed espresso.
For the salted vanilla cream, combine the heavy cream, vanilla syrup and a very small pinch of salt. Froth until it becomes thick and silky but remains pourable. Spoon or pour it over the iced latte.
Finish with a dusting of cinnamon.
