North West announces a one-night Chicago concert at The Vic Theatre after her canceled tour, marking another major step in the 13-year-old’s music career.

The timing is especially notable. North recently gave a wide-ranging interview about her music ambitions, rehearsals, and experience performing live, making it clear that music is more than a temporary experiment for her.

When Is North West's One-Night Chicago Concert?

North West will perform at The Vic Theatre, located at 3145 North Sheffield Avenue in Chicago, on September 5. The event is presented by Jam Productions and SPKRBX and is open to all ages.

The concert announcement comes shortly after North's planned Kimokawaii Tour with Molly Santana was canceled. The 14-date North American tour had originally been scheduled to begin August 5 in Dallas and continue through cities including Atlanta, New York, Boston, Toronto and Chicago before wrapping in Los Angeles on August 27.

North confirmed the cancellation in an Instagram Story in late July. “I was really excited to go on tour [with] Molly Santana, sadly it isn’t happening anymore,” she wrote, before teasing, “but I have something special for you guys, see you soon.” The September 5 Chicago show now appears to be at least part of that promised next chapter.

North West Is Already Focused on Performing Live

Although North has spent her entire life around some of entertainment's biggest names, she has increasingly been building an identity as an artist in her own right.

Her debut EP, N0rth4evr, arrived in May and blends rage rap, emo, hyperpop, alternative rock and metal influences. The six-track project also highlights North's interest in Japanese pop culture and internet-era aesthetics.

North West is getting another shot at the stage, and this time, the 13-year-old artist is making it a one-night event.

In June, she made her first solo festival appearance at Lyrical Lemonade's Summer Smash outside Chicago. Speaking to Dazed about the performance, North made clear she didn't feel like she had been rushed onto the stage. “I’ve been ready,” she said.

Asked to describe performing in three words, North chose: “Fun, relieving and exciting.”

Her Summer Smash appearance lasted about 15 minutes and included material from N0rth4evr, along with “Talking,” her collaboration with her father, Ye. She was also joined by Lil Novi for “Mula tha Root of All Evil.” The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the festival drew 50,000 attendees on its opening day and that North's stage attracted both curious festivalgoers and young fans already familiar with her music and style.

North West Says Rehearsing Is Her Latest Obsession

The upcoming North West concert could also give fans a chance to see how quickly her stage presence is developing. In her August Dazed interview, North revealed that she has become much more serious about preparing for performances.

“Rehearsing every day,” she said when asked what she was currently obsessed with, explaining that she previously preferred simply getting onstage and seeing what happened. “But I like dance rehearsing.”

She also described an ideal day as one spent moving between rehearsals and the recording studio, adding that “having a big show would be the most ideal day.”

North West Says Music Is What She Wants to Do With Her Life

North's career has inevitably attracted attention because she is the eldest daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye, but the teenager is increasingly speaking publicly about her own reasons for pursuing music.

When Dazed asked her about the worst advice she had received, North pointed to people telling her to wait before launching a career. “This is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life,” she said.

Her influences are also becoming clearer. North told the publication that Lil Uzi Vert's Pink Tape helped inspire her debut EP, calling the album “life-changing.” She named Lil Uzi Vert as a dream collaborator while also citing artists including Bktherula, Baby Osama and Babyxsosa among the female musicians she listens to.
