Fantastic Four: First Steps has released its first trailer, sharing a glimpse of a futuristic and intriguing world. Led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, the film marks an exciting new chapter for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first time the franchise is adapting some of the most beloved comic characters in comic book history.

The teaser poster for the film calls to mind the Silver Age of comic books, when the Fantastic Four made their debut

The trailer is set in a 1960s retro-futuristic world akin to "The Jetsons," and follows Richards, Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they deal with the impact of the space mission that left them with supernatural abilities and become the world's first public superheroes.

It's believed that the film is set in an alternate universe than the one that has been depicted in the MCU thus far. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but the film's synopsis and casting materials revealed some of the villains, played by Ralph Ineson and Julia Garner.

"Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner)," reads the film's synopsis.

"And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal."

More details about the 'Fantastic Four'

"Fantastic Four: First Steps" has a cast rounded out by Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. Last year, it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be rejoining the MCU, this time as the villain Dr. Doom, who's long been considered the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four.

It's unknown if Downey Jr. will be featured in "First Steps," but he will play a key part in the upcoming Avengers films, titled, "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars."

"Fantastic Four: First Steps" premieres in theaters this July 25th.
