Miss USA has a history-making new queen. Justus Kelley, who represented Virginia, was crowned Miss USA 2026 on Thursday, August 27, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. At 31, Kelley didn't just take home one of pageantry's biggest titles. She shattered several long-standing barriers at once.
Kelley is the first mother, first married woman, and first woman in her 30s to win Miss USA in the competition's 75-year history. She is also Virginia's first Miss USA winner since 1970.

She also has a bachelor's degree in community health and a master's degree in public health administration from Indiana University and works as an adviser at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Ahead of Miss USA, Kelley used the national spotlight to draw attention to an issue she had witnessed firsthand as a foster parent.

Kelley has spoken openly about foster care being centered on the needs of children and their biological families, including the importance of reunification. She told PEOPLE that she and Tyler wanted children entering their home to feel "safe, valued and worthy of being loved exactly as they are."
The couple's current foster children's biological family has also asked Kelley and her husband to serve as the children's godparents long-term, according to PEOPLE. That experience has helped shape the advocacy Kelley is bringing to her new national role.

Kelley brought another unexpected message to Miss USA: competing doesn't have to require an unlimited wardrobe budget. The new Miss USA has spoken about wearing thrifted clothing throughout her pageant journey.
She said she entered competition weekend with an all-thrifted wardrobe for different phases and recalled receiving compliments from judges on a suit she had purchased at Goodwill for just $9.99. Her goal was to demonstrate that contestants don't necessarily have to "spend a million dollars" to belong on a pageant stage.
