Jenna Ortega has signed on to an exciting new project. Following two seasons in the pop culture phenomenon "Wednesday," Ortega is aiming for something more realistic yet just as intense: a sports drama following a rivalry between an elite athlete and her coach.
Deadline reports that Ortega will star in "Nasty," alongside Oscar nominee Rose Byrne. The film follows a talented athlete preparing for the Olympics, hoping to earn a spot on the gymnastics team, with her coach as her biggest hurdle.
The script was written by Isabella Jarosz and was featured on the Blacklist, a compendium of the best unproduced screenplays in the industry. "Nasty" will be directed by Mary Bronstein, who recently directed Byrne in the film "If I Had Legs I'd Kick Kick You," resulting in Byrne's first Academy Award nomination. The movie will be produced by LuckyChap, the production company founded by Margot Robbie and her husband, Tom Ackerley. Ortega will also serve asone of the film's producers.
Ortega shared the film announcement on her Instagram, posting a photo of a poster featuring some bloody marks and bandages.
"If you don’t hate it, you don’t love it.

What's next for Ortega?
Ortega is one of the most promising young actresses in Hollywood. She's also one of the busiest. Over the past year, she's starred in the second season of "Wednesday," and in films like "Hurry Up Tomorrow," "Death of a Unicorn," and "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
She has a string of exciting projects lined up, including the movie "Klara and the Sun," based on the beloved novel by Kazuo Ishiguro and directed by Taika Waititi. She also stars in JJ Abrams' "The Great Beyond," alongside Glen Powell and Samuel L. Jackson, and is rumored to star in a remake of "Single White Female," following a woman who takes in a roommate, only to discover that the roommate is a terrifying stalker. Taylor Russell is rumored to star alongside her.
As to the third season of "Wednesday," a release date on Netflix is expected in late 2027 or early 2028, continuing Wednesday's story as she arrives in Paris, with new cast members including Eva Green, Lena Headey, and Ortega's friend and previous collaborator Winona Ryder.
