Lewis Hamilton has notoriously been one of the most private men in sports when it comes to his relationship. But things seem to be changing when it comes to Kim Kardashian.
Just 5 months after firmly shutting down questions about his relationship with the reality star, the seven-time Formula One world champion gave Kim a rare shoutout while on stage ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
In footage obtained by Daily Mail, Hamilton is standing with Formula One drivers Lando Norris and George Russell, answering fan questions when someone in the crowd points out that he seems happier lately and bluntly asks whether a girlfriend might be the reason. “Could that be a girlfriend?” the fan asked.
Hamilton laughed. “Yeah, that’s a good one.” That could have easily been the end of it, but broadcaster David Croft kept the moment going with a joke that immediately brought Kim Kardashian into the conversation.
“You know why he’s asking?” Croft teased. “He just needs to know if Kim needs two towels or not.” The crowd erupted, referencing Kim’s now-viral moment at the Monaco Grand Prix, where she accidentally grabbed a towel meant for Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli after the champagne celebration and used it to wipe her face.
After speaking about Ferrari and what joining the legendary team has meant to him, Hamilton reflected on how much the past year has changed. “Once you spend a year with this team … Ferrari is the most iconic team of all time,” he said, calling last season a “very tough” and “difficult” period.
He went on to praise the team around him, calling them “amazing” and “welcoming,” saying they’re finally seeing their hard work pay off.
Then he circled back, making sure he wouldn't have an angry girlfriend at home, adding, “And of course, of course — Kim.”
While they've done the Instagram officialness and public appearances, Hamilton has made it very clear he wanted to keep his private life away from the public. After the pair went viral together at the Super Bowl in February, reporters wasted no time pressing him for answers.
During race week in Bahrain, he immediately shut down questions about Kardashian, offering a blunt response, “It’s my private life. I’m not talking about that.”
Since his highly publicized, on-and-off relationship with Nicole Scherzinger ended in 2015, Hamilton has intentionally kept romance out of the spotlight. He has admitted more than once that he learned “the hard way” what happens when your personal life becomes public property.
It's a new era for the driver. In a 2025 interview, he opened up about just how much he has sacrificed for racing, revealing he hadn’t been in a serious long-term relationship in nearly a decade because Formula One came first.
“I look at the other drivers, and I wonder how they’re doing it,” he said at the time. “Some are having kids, some are married, most of them have a girlfriend.”
As for Kardashian, she is no stranger to public romance. If anything, highly visible relationships have practically become part of her mythology.
