Liam Payne’s 9-year-old is the sole heir to the late singer’s estate: How much is he getting and when?

Most of the inheritance will remain in trust until he turns 18, with Cheryl and an attorney overseeing the estate

Nearly two years after the tragic death of Liam Payne, new court documents have confirmed that his only child, Bear Grey Payne, is the sole beneficiary of the late singer’s multi-million-dollar estate. The former One Direction star, who died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, left behind an estate valued at approximately $29 million.

Because Payne died without a will, the distribution of his assets has been determined under UK intestacy laws, which generally prioritize children when there is no surviving spouse or civil partner, as informed by InStyle.

According to court documents reviewed by People, Bear, 9, will inherit the entire estate. However, he will not gain full control of the funds immediately. Most of the fortune will remain protected in a trust until he reaches adulthood, while a portion can be used for his care and upbringing.

Bear is the son of Payne and British singer Cheryl, who welcomed their child on March 22, 2017. Although the former couple ended their relationship in 2018, they remained committed to co-parenting their son while keeping him largely out of the public eye.

In May 2025, Cheryl and music industry attorney Richard Mark Bray were officially appointed as administrators of Payne’s estate after he died without leaving a will. Court filings at the time showed the singer’s gross UK estate was valued at approximately $38 million, with a net value of around $32.2 million after liabilities and expenses were deducted.

Under current arrangements, Cheryl and Bray are responsible for preserving and managing the estate on Bear’s behalf. According to reports, their authority remains limited, and they cannot distribute the assets until the appropriate legal process is completed.

The development highlights the importance of estate planning, particularly for parents. Because Payne died intestate, UK inheritance laws automatically determined how his wealth would be distributed. Legal experts note that in cases where there is no spouse, children typically become the primary beneficiaries.

Payne often spoke about the joy of becoming a father. Days after Bear’s birth, he shared an emotional message celebrating the milestone. “I am incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world. This is a moment I will never forget and my favorite memory so far,” Payne wrote.

He also praised Cheryl for her strength throughout the pregnancy, adding, “I am completely in awe of his amazing mother and how she has handled everything throughout this journey. She has truly made my dreams come true.”

Over the years, Payne described fatherhood as one of the most important parts of his life and frequently expressed his desire to create meaningful memories with his son.

Over the years, Payne described fatherhood as one of the most important parts of his life and frequently expressed his desire to create meaningful memories with his son. Friends, family members, and fans have continued to honor the singer’s legacy following his death, with Bear now set to inherit the fortune built through Payne’s successful music career.

While the legal process surrounding the estate continues, the court’s decision ensures that Payne’s only child remains the primary beneficiary of the wealth and legacy he leaves behind.
