All eyes were on Ilia Topuria, who was the center of attention during the highly anticipated UFC lightweight title fight held at the White House as part of President Donald Trump's 80th birthday celebrations.

The Spanish-Georgian fighter suffered the first defeat of his professional career against Justin Gaethje, an unexpected outcome that prevented him from retaining his UFC lightweight championship.

Despite sustaining significant facial injuries during the fight, Topuria showed determination throughout the bout before it was stopped on medical advice.

Throughout the bout, Topuria showed remarkable resilience and determination despite the severity of his injuries. However, after a ringside physician advised that the fight be stopped, Topuria's brother urged officials to end the contest.

As concern grew over images showing the fighter with a severely injured and bloodied face, Topuria has now broken his silence.

Ilia Topuria's full statement:

"Justin, congratulations. You said you'd leave your mark on my face… and you did.

You took the sight from my right eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, from my left too.

No excuses.

I had one of the best camps of my life. I came in sharp, prepared, and ready. Last night was your night.

That's the nature of this game. Glory and pain walk side by side.

I'll heal. I'll rest. And I'll return stronger, wiser, and far more dangerous.

And trust me… this story between us is far from over.

We will have our rematch."

Topuria's highly anticipated return following his separation:

The loss is especially painful for Topuria because he had been eagerly awaiting this fight, which marked his return to competition after an extended absence.

In June 2025, he announced that he would not compete during the first months of 2026 for personal reasons.

It later emerged that he was going through a difficult period following his separation from Giorgina Uzcategui, with whom he shares a daughter who will turn two this summer.

Topuria is also the father of another child from a previous relationship, although few details about that chapter of his life have been made public.

The separation process ultimately ended on a positive note.

The entrepreneur withdrew her domestic abuse complaint, the case was dismissed, and the former couple reached an agreement based on terms the fighter had advocated for from the beginning.

With those personal matters resolved, the mixed martial arts star devoted himself fully to preparing for his comeback at the White House. Following the fight, he was reportedly transported to a Washington, D.C. hospital for medical evaluation.

More than 5,000 guests attended the spectacle, while fans around the world followed the action closely. Giant screens were also installed in the nearby Ellipse park, allowing thousands of spectators to watch the fight live.

The event, reportedly valued at $60 million, was organized as part of Trump's birthday celebrations and the commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Ilia Topuria's new life in Miami:

A new chapter has begun for Topuria.

The fighter has recently relocated to Miami, where he plans to spend the coming years after a long period living in Spain. During his time there, he developed close friendships with figures including Omar Montes, Alberto Contador, Pablo Motos, and Sergio Ramos.

While the move may seem unexpected, it makes sense professionally. The United States is home to one of the UFC's main operational hubs and offers many of the sport's most significant commercial and media opportunities.

There are also personal reasons behind the decision. Florida is where his former partner lives with their daughter, and being nearby makes co-parenting and family logistics significantly easier. Ensuring stability for their young daughter remains Topuria's top priority.
