Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith may not be living in the same house, but they're still showing up for their family.
The at times confusing couple stepped out for a rare public outing this week, marking the first time they've been photographed together in roughly six months.
The couple reportedly spent about four hours having dinner with family, proving once again that family remains at the center of their non-traditional relationship.
Their son Jaden Smith was along for the delicious fun, and Will's eldest son, Trey Smith, whom he shares with ex-wife Sheree Zampino, and Will's mother, Caroline.
Public appearances involving Will and Jada have become increasingly rare. Their last appearance was earlier this year, in January, when they reunited in Paris to support Jaden during Paris Fashion Week, where he was celebrating his Christian Louboutin collaboration.
The outing sparked a wave of reconciliation rumors after the two were photographed holding hands. But sources quickly shut it down.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the two are still living separately, though insiders noted that the time apart has actually strengthened their relationship. "They are getting along," a source said, adding that "having this time actually helped their relationship."
Another source told People that the Paris trip was all about Jaden's milestone. "They were all about this amazing, united family front to support Jaden and enjoy Fashion Week," the insider said.
Their complicated relationship
Jada revealed in 2023 that the two had actually been separated since 2016.
It was a shocking revelation because for years, the couple appeared together publicly, attending events, and supporting one another despite quietly living separate lives behind the scenes.
Speaking with Hoda Kotb on Today, Jada explained that by 2016, both she and Will had become "exhausted with trying." "I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be," she said.
She later confirmed that while they remained married legally, they had been living "completely separate lives."
Still, divorce was never something she seriously considered. "I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever," Jada explained. "And I just haven't been able to break that promise."
Over the years, they have repeatedly emphasized that their connection evolved into something deeper than a traditional marriage. "We love our family. And we love each other," Jada said, describing their relationship as "more of a life partnership."
While Will has never been linked to another woman, Jada's relationship with singer-songwriter August Alsina became a major headline in 2020 after she confirmed the two had been involved in an "entanglement" during a period when she and Will were separated.
No matter how much speculation surrounds them, they continue to prioritize their children and their blended family. As one source previously put it, "Call it what you want. They are living their own lives but haven't completely severed ties."
