There were plenty of celebrity couples showing off their love at this year’s Met Gala, but Kylie Jenner walked the carpet alone. Her boyfriend, Timothée, was instead sitting courtside at the Knicks game. While Chalamet has always been a dedicated fan, according to a new report, there may have been another superstitious reason he wasn't there.
A source told Page Six that the billionaire is scared of the infamous “Met Gala curse." There has been an internet theory for years that couples who attend the event together eventually break up.
"Kylie and Timothée intentionally avoided attending the Met Gala together these past few years because they didn’t want to risk the whole ‘Met Gala curse’ thing,” the insider claimed.
The source said Jenner became superstitious after attending the gala with her ex and baby daddy, Travis Scott, in 2018 and 2019. They first split in October 2019 before having an on-and-off relationship until 2023. They welcomed Stormi and Aire along the way.
Chalamet spent the evening exactly where it looked like he wanted to be. Pictures and news of him sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden, watching the New York Knicks take on the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal, quickly went viral.
Meanwhile, Jenner attended the gala in a Schiaparelli look featuring pearls, an embellished train, and a nude illusion corset.
Victims of the Met Gala Curse
The infamous Met Gala “curse" does come with some evidence and celebrity couples whose relationships ended not long after the gala.
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson made headlines when they attended the 2022 Met Gala together during their whirlwind nine-month relationship. They split just three months later in August 2022.
Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx have been quietly dating for nearly six years following her headline-making divorce from Tom Cruise. They finally went public with their love during the 2019 Met Gala festivities. Just weeks later, reports surfaced that the longtime couple had split.
Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long had been dating for around two years when they made their first and only Met Gala appearance together in 2015. By September of that same year, the couple had reportedly called it quits.
One of the strongest pieces of evidence is that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth attended the Met Gala together just once throughout their decade-long relationship. The couple walked the carpet in 2019, only a few months after getting married in December 2018. They announced their separation later that summer.
