Hilary Duff is leaning all the way into a title she proudly claims she’s earned at home: creator of the “disgusting food game.” And yes, it’s exactly as chaotic as it sounds. During her March 17 appearance on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, the 38-year-old singer and actress didn’t shy away when host Josh Scherer introduced her with the hilarious label.

In fact, she owned it instantly. “I really appreciate that title, that I'm the inventor of this game,” Duff said with a laugh.

The “Disgusting Food Game” Rules Are Brutal

The concept is deceptively simple but wildly unhinged. It started as a bonding activity between Duff and her oldest son, Luca Cruz, 13, and his friends. But what began as a playful kitchen experiment quickly evolved into a full-on challenge of endurance.

“You design the grossest bite of food possible… and then feed it to each other, and it's all about who can keep it down,” Duff explained.

There’s no room for weak stomachs. The stakes are clear and merciless. “If you spit that out, you are a loser. You have not won.”

Inside the Grossest Food Combos Imaginable

If you’re picturing strange flavor pairings, think worse. Much worse. Duff described combinations that intentionally clash in both taste and texture. The goal isn’t just weird. It’s maximum discomfort. “You’re going for absolute sheer grossness,” she said. “You want the other person to be on the floor.”

Typical creations might include capers mixed with peanut butter, layered with herbs, or something “wiggly” thrown in for good measure. Texture is just as important as flavor, and often the deciding factor in whether someone taps out.

From Family Kitchen to Viral Moment

The game made its way from Duff’s home into the spotlight during her Last Meals appearance, where she and Scherer decided to test it out themselves. The timing couldn’t have been more ironic. They had just started with a relatively elevated dish: Ruffles potato chips topped with caviar and crème fraîche, alongside an Oeuf Mayo Farm Egg and a martini that Scherer jokingly described as “horrifyingly dirty.”

Both dove into assembling outrageous bites packed with clashing ingredients. Think fish, fermented pastes, sugary sauces, and even soda all in one mouthful.

At one point, Duff tried to decode the chaos mid-chew. “There’s a lot of fish… is there something sweet?” she said, before landing on an unexpected guess. “Diet Coke — it’s the aspartame.”

The Moment It Went Too Far

Even Duff has her limits. When she discovered what was actually in one of the bites prepared for her, the reaction was instant and priceless. “You are such an a--hole! There are so many crickets in my mouth.”

The game had officially crossed into full survival mode. Still, she handled it exactly how fans would expect — with humor, resilience, and zero intention of backing down completely. “I wanna redo,” she said, already open to another round.
