Sydney Sweeney is preparing for a big window of releases. The actress is opening up about her film "Christy," which she produced and starred in, and has inspired some early Oscar buzz. She's also opening up about the much-discussed and awaited new season of "Euphoria," and the loss of her friend and co-star, Angus Cloud.
In an interview with Variety, Sweeney opened up about the emotional experience of returning to the set of the HBO show without one of the show's key characters.
“It was definitely a very emotional experience to go back to a set and not have him be there with you. He was such a special person, and he was taken way too young,” she said, revealing that she was in Idaho with her family when she learned of Angus' death.
“I’m glad I was home because I was surrounded by my family. I think my first call was Maude [Apatow], and then Jacob [Elordi], and we were all just crying on the phone together. It’s not something you want to bring people back together over, but I’m thankful to have my castmates to be able to process all of that together.”
Cloud died in July of 2023, after an accidental overdose. He was 25 years old. The news was confirmed by his family, who shared a moving statement. "It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways."
"Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence. We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone.”
"Euphoria" cast members tributed Cloud
In the months following his death, many of Cloud's "Euphoria" cast members shared moving statements and some of their favorite memories of the late actor.
In the case of Sweeney, she shared various photos of herself and Cloud over the years, showing them hugging and having fun together. “Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter,” she said in a statement.
“This is the hardest thing ive ever had to post, and im struggling to find all the words. You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same. This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”
