The pair have lived most of their lives in New York City, and have been photographed over the years, with Suri growing up in front of our eyes. While they have been private about their everyday lives and have been careful to steer clear of the media, over the years, the pair have demonstrated how much they love and support each other, whether that's through a statement made in a magazine or through sweet gestures.
It's a dynamic that reminds us of one of our favorite fictional mother-daughter duos, Lorelai and Rory, from the beloved show "Gilmore Girls." Here's how they mirror each other:
They like to watch movies and shows together
Lorelai and Rory were big pop culture fans, with watching movies and films being one of their main forms of enjoying their time together.
Over the years, Katie and Suri have been photographed going to the movies together, with outlets reporting some of their chosen movie-watching snacks: popcorn and Milk Duds, per PEOPLE magazine. Holmes has also shared photos of herself and her daughter watching the Oscars at home.
More recently, Katie shared that she and Suri had been watching "Dawson's Creek" together, the show that launched her career to fame.
"She has seen Dawson's Creek, and I think it's probably weird since she's a teenager. I'm not like, 'You need to watch mommy's work.' But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it," said Holmes in an interview with Variety.
"It's wild to have a daughter who's almost the same age as I was when I began all this."
It's also important to note that Katie and Suri have even collaborated on films together! In the film "Alone Together," which Katie wrote and directed, Suri sang "Blue Moon," which is featured in the film's opening.
They share clothes
As Suri grows up, her sense of fashion skewers towards her mother. Over the past couple of years, the two have been photographed wearing the same clothing items. In one instance, Suri wore a green puffer jacket identical to a jacket worn by her mother in 2019. Aside from sharing clothes, both like to care for their items, ensuring that they have a long life in their closets.

Katie was a young mom
Another thing that the two pairs of mothers and daughters share is the fact that they are relatively young moms. In an interview with Elle UK, Holmes discussed having Suri in her 20s and how that has impacted their relationship. “I was happy to become a mom in my 20s,” she said.
“It’s been nice that our ages fit. How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.”
