Will Ferrell is a funny guy. Over the weekend, the actor and comedian was spotted attending the hockey game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers. To celebrate the holidays, instead of wearing a jersey, Ferrell opted for his full Buddy the Elf costume, from his beloved Christmas film "Elf."

Photographers captured Ferrell watching the game from the sidelines. He wore a bright green outfit made out of a jacket with white fur on the wrist and the neck and a matching pointy hat with some red and yellow details on them.

Ferrell watched the game attentively as he drank a beer and a fake cigarette hanging from his lips, paying no mind to the photographers.

He was deeply in character, with reporters sharing that while Ferrell has been a longtime fan of the Los Angeles Kings, they'd never seen him look this serious before, especially when dressed so festively.

"We've never ever seen him like this," said the sports commentator. "I stopped by just to check in on him, he's smoking a cigarette, he's got a five o'clock shadow, looking a little bit disgruntled. He said it was a tough holiday season and he's looking for a Kings win. "

Buddy the Elf's first sporting appearance

While Ferrell often attends Los Angeles Kings' games, this marks the first time he showed up dressed in character. Ferrell memorably played Buddy in "Elf," released in 2003 to great success.

He played the role of a human man that was adopted by elves and raised in the North Pole. One Christmas, he decides to leave his hometown and go to New York to find his family, resulting in a hilarious fish-out-of-water story.

In a recent appearance on the Messy podcast, Ferrell discussed his work in "Elf" and starring alongside the late actor James Caan, who played his father.

“James Caan, may he rest in peace, we had such a good time working on that movie,” he said. “He would tease me. I like to do bits but I’m not like ‘on’ all the time. In between set ups, [Caan] would be like, ‘I don’t get you. You’re not funny.’ And I’m like, ‘I know. I’m not Robin Williams.’ And he was like, ‘People ask me: “Is he funny?” And I’m like, “No, he’s not funny.”‘
