Britney Spears reveals the reason she has decided to move to Mexico

Pop icon Britney Spears marked her 43rd birthday on Monday, December 2, with a sun-soaked celebration on the beaches of Mexico. The singer took to Instagram to share glimpses of her day, but a cryptic video and recent life events have left fans speculating about her future.

Spears began her milestone day with a private jet trip from Los Angeles to Mexico, sharing a playful video captioned with an unusual statement: "It's my birthday, I'm not turning 42; I'm turning 5 this year, and I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow."

In the same video, Spears made a passing comment about moving to Mexico, citing dissatisfaction with her portrayal in the media. According to the singer, the paparazzi always make her face look different. The offhand remark has fueled rumors that the singer may be considering a more permanent move to the sunny retreat.

However, a source close to Spears clarified to People: "Britney treated herself to a fun vacation for her birthday. She loves Mexico and can't wait to celebrate in the sun." 

Britney's birthday coincides with a turning point in her personal life. The singer was officially declared single on Monday, following the end of a six-month waiting period after her May divorce from actor and fitness trainer Sam Asghari. Legal documents cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, per TMZ.

"The divorce was amicable and the prenup was not challenged," said a source to PEOPLE at the time of their divorce. "Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on."

In October, Spears shared a video dancing while wearing her wedding dress. "The day I married myself," she captioned the post. "Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it's the most brilliant thing I've ever done!!!"

In early 2024, Spears reunited with her 18-year-old son Jayden after years of estrangement. The teenager returned to California after living in Hawaii with his brother Sean, 19, and his dad Kevin Federline, who's had custody of his kids since 2008. 

It was reported that Jayden took the first step and facilitated the reunion by contacting Spears first. “Jayden texted Britney to say he was back home,” said an insider to Page Six. “She was very happy to hear from and see him.”

The two have been spending time together over the past month. “Britney is thrilled to have her baby back,” said another insider of the reunion. “Everything is moving in the right direction.”
