Kim Kardashian wishes Paris Hilton a happy birthday: a look back at their friendship

The rich and famous friends both grew up in Beverly Hills “Paris and I have been friends since we were kids,” Kardashian shared in an interview on the Today show in April 2008.

Kardashian famously used to clean out Hilton’s closet. “I would work with Paris, and I would love to organize and clean out their closets and get rid of all their stuff, and sell it on eBay and then shop for them, shop for her. That was my job. I loved it,” the mom of four told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2017.

They became close friends in their 20s. Kardashian made several appearances on Hiltons’ and Nicole Richie’s show, The Simple Life.

Kardashian has credited Hilton as one other mentor, who helped her with advice, and they knew how to be seen in the public eye. “We’d go anywhere and everywhere just to be seen … We knew exactly where to go, where to be seen, how to have something written about you,” Kardashian said in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015.

They did seem to have a frenemies stage. In 2008, she dissed Kardashian on her podcast “This is Paris.” “I would not want [Kim’s butt] – it’s gross! It reminds me of cottage cheese inside a big trash bag,” she said on the show, per US Magazine.

Hilton issued a formal apology, but in 2011 Kardashian said they had drifted apart. “We don’t really talk. As I always say, everyone comes into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And she was in my life for a long time,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.

They reunited after a few years, in 2014, at designer Riccardo Tisci’s birthday party, and Kardashian shared a photo saying it was so good to catch up with her.

They reunited again, posing together for a photo, at Kris Jenner’s Christmas Eve party in 2016. It seemed to be the catalyst for their newfound friendship. In 2020 Hilton appears in a fall 2020 Skims campaign.

By 2021 the besties were back on, and the reality star attended her wedding to Carter Reum in November 2021.
