King Willem-Alexander’s latest official meeting has revealed a touching detail inside his palace office.
While receiving Dutch politician Christine Teunissen at Huis ten Bosch Palace on September 1, the monarch was photographed with a large family portrait displayed prominently on the wall beside him.

The portrait immediately drew attention after the Dutch Royal House shared the photograph on social media, with royal watchers commenting on the sweet family detail.
The meeting itself marked a renewed introduction between Willem-Alexander and Christine, who became parliamentary leader and party leader of the Party for the Animals in June 2026. She succeeded Esther Ouwehand, who remains a member of the Netherlands’ House of Representatives.

Christine joined the monarch for a conversation in one of the elegant reception rooms at Huis ten Bosch, the royal family’s official residence in The Hague.
Although the content of their discussion was not disclosed, the images showed the pair seated opposite each other beside an ornate fireplace. The room’s gilded walls, antique furnishings and decorative objects provided a stately background, but it was the photograph of Máxima and the princesses that added warmth to the scene.
A family home and working palace:
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima moved into Huis ten Bosch Palace with their daughters in 2019 following an extensive renovation. The historic residence serves as both the family’s home and a setting for royal engagements, including audiences, official meetings and receptions.

During the pandemic, Willem-Alexander and Máxima were pictured carrying out duties from separate offices within the palace. Their workspaces featured personal photographs alongside computers, books and official documents.
