Princess Alexia of the Netherlands may keep a relatively low public profile, but whenever she steps into the spotlight, she makes her fashion choices count. Her latest appearance offered another example of why the 21-year-old is emerging as the Dutch royal family’s style wild card.
Alexia joined her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on August 23. While the occasion marked an emotional farewell to the Formula 1 event, the young royal brought an unexpectedly glamorous note to the racetrack in a sleek, all-black ensemble.

The contemporary silhouette felt noticeably different from the polished dresses and tailored separates traditionally associated with royal appearances.
Alexia made the look even more distinctive with Sézane’s Esmée belt, a gold-tone chain design decorated with colorful resin details. Worn low around her waist, the accessory gave the monochromatic jumpsuit a playful, fashion-forward finish.

The whimsical necklace was a particularly revealing choice, adding a youthful touch to an otherwise sophisticated outfit.
The royal family’s fashion risk-taker:
As the second daughter of the king and queen, Alexia occupies a different position from her older sister, Princess Catharina-Amalia, who is heir to the Dutch throne.

She has used that space to develop an eclectic wardrobe that moves easily between accessible brands and luxury labels. Zara, Mango, COS and Massimo Dutti sit alongside Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Delvaux and Gianvito Rossi in her closet.

For King’s Day in 2025, Alexia layered a black faux-leather biker jacket from Massimo Dutti over a Bardot-neck top and pleated skirt by Maje. Burgundy Mary Jane heels from Sézane and a Delvaux clutch borrowed from Máxima completed one of her edgiest royal looks.
At the family’s 2026 summer photo session, she changed direction in a sleeveless green Reiss dress styled with a wide Mango obi belt and brown Gianvito Rossi boots. The look was feminine and polished, but the oversized belt gave it the kind of dramatic twist that has become an Alexia signature.

A new generation of royal style:
Alexia’s appeal lies in that unpredictability. She does not rely on a single uniform or attempt to make every appearance feel traditionally regal. Instead, she experiments with leather jackets, asymmetric shapes, bold belts, playful jewelry and pieces from her mother’s closet.

Alexia may appear in public less frequently than some of Europe’s other young royals, but her rare outings are quickly becoming ones to watch. If her latest look is any indication, the Dutch royal family’s fashion wild card is only beginning to define her style.
