For Ferran Torres, that moment came in Foios, the small Valencian town where he grew up, during a homecoming celebration thrown in his honor. Thousands turned out. Spain did win — beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time on a goal scored by Torres himself, delivering the nation its second world title sixteen years after 2010. But when the players were welcomed to the Palacio de la Zarzuela the following day for a royal audience, Torres showed up with his hair intact.
Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, noticed this immediately — and wasn't about to let it slide. In front of Infanta Sofía and the rest of the royal family, she turned to him and asked: "Weren't you going to shave your head?"

Torres tried to dodge it, tossing the question back to the audience: "I don't think I'm the one who should answer that. Ask the crowd if they want me to cut my hair."

Winning the World Cup has reshaped Torres's public life in ways that go beyond a haircut he never got around to. Standing before his neighbors in Foios, Torres switched to Valencian to address them directly, calling it an honor to have grown up there and describing his hometown as the perfect town. It's a sentiment he's repeated for years, long before the World Cup ever entered the picture: "I love my town so much. Wherever I go, I always say I'm from Foios. I'm foiero, always. It genuinely makes me feel very grounded."
