Infanta Sofía is marking one of the biggest milestones of her still-young public career. After making her first official appearances at the Objetivo Patrimonio photography awards and the opening of an ONCE center dedicated to training guide dogs, the younger daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia is now taking on her role as honorary president of the Ibercaja Foundation. The occasion also marks another first: she'll deliver her first official address.

The event was originally expected to be a solo engagement. But Princess Leonor surprised royal watchers by joining her sister for the morning's activities. Just hours later, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia confirmed they would attend as well. Their presence turned the occasion into an especially meaningful family moment, with Sofía supported by her parents and sister on one of the most significant days of her public life.

The Royal Family Turns the Event Into a Show of Support

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia traveled to the Monastery of Nuestra Señora de Cogullada, where Infanta Sofía is taking on one of her most significant royal responsibilities to date. Princess Leonor was also by her side, a surprise given that this had initially been planned as Sofía's third solo official engagement as the second in line to the Spanish throne.

A Surprise Appearance by Princess Leonor

Leonor's appearance earlier in the day, ahead of her sister's inaugural official speech, hinted that more surprises might be in store. Later that afternoon, the Royal Household confirmed that the King and Queen would also attend, underscoring their support for their younger daughter during this landmark moment.

When they arrived, Felipe and Letizia appeared relaxed and at ease, drawing attention to an event that reflects both the present and the future of the Spanish monarchy.

A Family Walk Before the Ceremony

Before the ceremony and the presentation of the inaugural Docentes Referentes grants, the royal family walked together through the gardens of the Monastery of Nuestra Señora de Cogullada. The display of unity was unmistakable and highlighted the close bond they share. Throughout the brief stroll, the King and Queen chatted comfortably with their daughters and exchanged smiles with members of the press in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Princess Leonor walked beside her father, while Infanta Sofía remained at her mother's side, creating a quietly symbolic family portrait.

Following in Princess Leonor's Footsteps Sofía Delivers Her First Official Address

Today, Infanta Sofía delivers her first official address, a milestone that places her more prominently within the royal family's public duties as she follows the path set by Princess Leonor. The heir to the throne delivered her first public speech at age 13 during the 2019 Princess of Asturias Awards. King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Sofía were all in attendance. Then, Sofía watched from the audience as her older sister reached that milestone. Today, in a symbolic passing of the torch, it's her turn to step up to the podium.
