From early this morning through Thursday, June 11, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender are undertaking a highly anticipated state visit to the Netherlands.

Throughout the visit, they will participate in numerous official engagements, many of them alongside King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.

One of the most majestic moments of the visit will undoubtedly be tonight’s state banquet at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, where Princess Catharina-Amalia is also expected to appear.

However, the first event on the agenda was a welcoming ceremony held in Dam Square, where fashion once again took center stage.

Queen Máxima’s look:

In this iconic square, the beating heart of the city and home to the imposing Royal Palace, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima warmly received the German President and First Lady before they took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the National Monument, a landmark that attracts countless visitors each year.

For the occasion, Queen Máxima delivered a tribute to spring, using floral motifs as the unifying theme throughout her ensemble. Rather than opting for a brightly colored interpretation of the trend, however, she chose a softer, more understated approach.

A timeless fashion formula:

Analyzing her look piece by piece, the Dutch Queen, whose ensemble was notably brighter than the dark attire chosen by Elke Büdenbender, wore a classic white blouse featuring an oversized collar, a fluid silhouette, and wide elbow-length sleeves.

The simplicity of the blouse contrasted beautifully with an elegant beige linen skirt adorned with large white floral motifs resembling painterly brushstrokes.

The design carried an artistic flair, transforming a seasonal floral print into something sophisticated and contemporary.

The skirt is a new piece from Natan, one of Máxima’s favorite fashion houses. She paired it with nude high-heeled pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a versatile choice that complements virtually any look.

Queen Máxima's statement accessories:

Within Queen Máxima’s signature style vocabulary, one accessory holds particular importance, and that's the wide-brimmed hat.

Whether paired with elaborate fascinators or more everyday millinery, this accessory consistently elevates her outfits, lending them an added sense of grandeur and royal elegance.

For today's ceremony, she chose a white oversized hat featuring veiled detailing and geometric sheer accents, topped with a dramatic oversized flower. This striking new creation comes from Philip Treacy, one of the favorite milliners of British royals, including Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Pearls add the finishing touch:

Associated with femininity and understated power, pearls provided the perfect finishing touch to Queen Máxima’s ensemble.

Pearls, florals, and a dramatic wide-brimmed hat underscored Queen Máxima's reputation as one of Europe's most stylish royals.

Her jewelry included an elegant pearl choker featuring graduated pearl sizes, a matching bracelet, pearl earrings, and a statement ring worn on her left hand.

These pieces reinforced the refined sophistication that has become a hallmark of the Dutch Queen’s style.
