Mary of Denmark made an entrance in Stockholm. While we're in the midst of a busy royal agenda, all eyes were on the Swedish capital, where King Carl XVI Gustaf is celebrating his 80th birthday. The party began early, with onlookers catching sight of numerous royals arriving throughout the day. As day turned to night, media attention shifted to the much-anticipated gala, with royals showcasing their finest gowns and family jewels.
A new tiara for Mary of Denmark
Mary of Denmark was among the gala's guests, attending the event alongside her husband, King Frederik X. For the occasion, Mary wore a remarkable tiara — originally a diamond bracelet known as the Løsørefideikommis — modified by Queen Margrethe to be worn in different ways. It's a perfect example of innovating without the need to commission an entirely new piece.
The jewel carries a long royal history, having been a wedding gift from King Oscar I and Queen Josephine to Louise of Sweden in 1850. Passed down through generations, it is now one of the pieces reserved exclusively for Danish queens.
She completed her jewelry selection with long diamond earrings that complemented the tiara, and a diamond brooch that previously belonged to Queen Josephine — a testament to the Danish royal family's long pedigree and deep sense of history.
A gown with an oriental twist
Mary paired her jewels with a stunning gown. The long, lilac dress featured floral prints with an oriental influence, a Mandarin collar, long sleeves, and an elegant drape in the skirt. A teardrop necklace added a final, refined touch. The result was a sophisticated and cohesive look that made Mary one of the most stylish royals in attendance.
The elegant purse preferred by royalty
Mary completed the look with a Bottega Veneta knot clutch — an accessory that has become a quiet favorite among royals. Her version arrived in pink silk, a fitting choice for a black-tie gala. She had previously carried the same clutch in 2019, making this another example of Mary's trademark habit of re-wearing and repurposing her favorite pieces.
A French nod during the morning festivities
For the daytime events marking King Carl XVI Gustaf's 80th birthday, Mary revisited her pale rose Dior co-ord, a jacket and A-line skirt ensemble that she first wore on March 31st, 2025, during her State Visit to France.
She paired it with her snake-finish Gianvito Rossi heels and her diamond floral earrings by Bruun Rasmussen, pieces she's owned and worn since 2017.
