Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg is on Instagram! Prince Joachim of Denmark's ex-wife is now on the social media platform and being followed by her son Count Nikolai of Monpezat, his girlfriend Benedikte Thoustrup and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece. The mom of two officially launched her account earlier this month with help from her 26-year-old son.

On Sept. 4, Alexandra posted a video featuring Nikolai and behind-the-scenes footage from a photoshoot he set up for her. In the video, Queen Margrethe II's eldest grandchild says, "So my mom has known about this surprise for a while, but she has no idea what it involves."

Alongside the video, Alexandra wrote: "I wanted to go on Instagram, but I had no idea where to start. So my amazing son @nikolaitildanmark arranged a surprise photoshoot for me. So here we are… and now we are live 😄."

Nikolai reacted to the post, writing: "Good to see you on here finally 🙌😮‍💨."

Alexandra has since shared multiple posts on her Instagram account, including the "final" results from the photoshoot that Nikolai arranged. "I still can’t believe @nikolaitildanmark went overboard with the surprise photoshoot," she captioned the pictures. "Great results! 😮‍💨📸," Nikolai commented on them.

Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg was previously married to King Frederik's of Denmark's brother Prince Joachim. The former couple wed in 1995 and their divorce was finalized in 2005. Alexandra and the Prince share two sons, Nikolai and Count Felix, 23. Joachim also has two younger kids, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, from his second marriage to Princess Marie, whom he married in 2008.

The Prince and Princess titles of Joachim's children were discontinued at the start of 2023. The Danish Royal House announced in September of 2022 that Queen Margrethe had decided to change their titles, explaining that she wished "to create the framework for the four grandchildren to be able to shape their own lives to a much greater extent without being limited by the special considerations and duties that a formal affiliation with the Royal House of Denmark as an institution involves.”

Margrethe later told Weekendavisen that it was better that she was the one to make the change, rather than her son Frederik, who ascended the throne in 2024. “For me, it has been important that it should not be Frederik’s lot to make such a decision,” Joachim's mother said, via Billed Bladet  (translated to English). “It was better that it was me.”

She added, “Because then it is the old woman who has decided it."
