Princess Amalia of the Netherlands has taken an important step for her country. Earlier this week, the heir of King Willem-Alexander attended a UN gathering marking the 80th anniversary of the organization alongside her mother, Queen Maxima. It's an important step for the princess, who has been serving as the Netherlands' heir since she was nine years old.
Princess Amalia shadowed her mother through the event, learning from a key figure in the UN, with Maxima serving as the organization's Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) since 2009.
Through the trip, the Princess was exposed to various moments and situations that will serve her well in the future, including getting a first-hand look at how these meetings work and how different countries come together to pursue their shared and individual interests.
For the occasion, Amalia wore a black oversized suit that she paired with a white button-up and red heels. She styled her hair long and straight, adding a touch of personality through her jewelry, particularly her large golden earrings.
Queen Maxima opted for some color, wearing a light blue suit alongside a white blouse and golden heels. One to never shy away from large accessories, the Queen rounded out her outfit with a beaded and colorful necklace and a golden clutch purse.
More details about Queen Maxima's UN meetings
The Queen had a busy schedule, meeting up with different people and important organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in a meeting designed to analyze the opportunities and challenges in promoting financial health in Latin America and the Caribbean.
All through Maxima's meetings, Princess Amalia stood by her, holding her own folder of documents that allowed her to keep up with the conversations that were developing. The Queen has been working on these proposals over the past year. "I'm now focused on financial health," she said in an interview with HOLA! last year. "We know now that many more people can get credit. Which is amazing, because it provides them with more opportunities to generate income."
"We have to examine with great attention how we can develop financial services that directly benefit people's financial health."
In the coming days, Queen Maxima and Princess Amalia will be traveling to New York, where they'll participate in different UN events. Other royals that are expected in these gatherings include King Felipe, King Carl and Queen Silvia of Sweden, and more.
