Crown Prince Christian of Denmark is "really looking forward" to what's next for him. Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark's 19-year-old son is set to begin a Lieutenant's training course this year. The Danish Royal House announced last month that Christian—who began his military service at the Guard Hussar Regiment (Gardehusarregimentet) back in February—is now a Guards Hussar and will continue his training as a lieutenant in August.

In a press release, translated to English, the Royal House said: "The Crown Prince is now a Guards Hussar. In connection with serving his military service with the Guard Hussar Regiment, the Crown Prince has now also been admitted to the Lieutenant's Training Course. The training starts in early August 2025 and lasts one year plus a subsequent period of practical service as a platoon leader. The Crown Prince will complete his ongoing military service with the Guard Hussar Regiment at the end of May."

Christian completed the mandatory REX tour as part of his military service last month. A short film about the Crown Prince's four-day REX trip was released by the Royal House on May 19. "We are a lot of young people from very different parts of the country, who have all gotten along really well with each other. Almost from the first week I think there was a lot of enthusiasm for getting to know new people. No one thought 'No, I don't want to.' So I'm very happy with the camaraderie in here. You can see that it binds you closer together when you are part of what we do," the Prince said in the video (translated to English).

"What I'm looking forward to most about the REX trip is definitely starting the trip and seeing what we're going to do. Getting out to where we're going to be. And then I'm really, really looking forward to getting back to the barracks and getting the REX badge," the heir to the Danish throne added.

After completing the tour, Christian received the REX badge on May 15, 2025. "I was actually a little nervous, and then I was just super proud. And it's something I've been looking forward to for a really, really long time," the Crown Prince said on day 4 of the trip. "The future holds the end of this period as a conscript and then even more military time in the Lieutenant's Training here in Slagelse. I'm really looking forward to that."

The Crown Prince was pictured at Frederik VIII's Palace earlier this week. On June 3, the Crown Prince received a book of thanks from three young people, representing the many guests who attended his 18h birthday celebration in 2023. According to the Royal House, the book "contains personal thank-you letters and reflections on the party and has been created together over the past year."

In a speech at the gala dinner she hosted for her grandson's 18th birthday, Queen Margrethe II said (translated to English), “Dear Christian, your 18th birthday is an important day, with it you come of age, just as it happens for all other young Danes. But there is still a difference. Your path in life is already set, for one day you will follow your father, just as he will follow me one day. You become a link in the long historical chain that has bound our country together for centuries.”

Margrethe abdicated in favor of her son Frederik in January 2024. Upon his father's accession to the throne, Christian became the Crown Prince, and is now first in line to the throne.
