Silvia Tcherassi has spent nearly four decades bringing Colombian fashion to the world, dressing everyone from Queen Rania and Queen Máxima to Jennifer Lopez and Dua Lipa. In July 2026, she was named Colombia’s honorary Ambassador of Fashion, Creativity and Identity, recognizing her contribution to the industry and giving her a new platform to promote the country's designers and artisans abroad.
“I have always seen my successes as an achievement for Colombians,” she wrote on Colombia’s Independence Day. First Lady Ana Lucía Pineda wore one of her creations for the official celebrations and chose the label again during Paris Fashion Week in October.
Born in Barranquilla, Silvia studied interior design before turning to fashion in 1987. Her use of color, sculptural silhouettes and unconventional fabrics helped establish her signature style. She became the first Latin American designer officially invited to show at Milan Fashion Week, and in 2004, France honored her contribution to fashion and the arts. Weeks later, she joined the official Paris Fashion Week calendar.
Last fall, Silvia received the inaugural International Designer Award at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid during the event’s 40th anniversary. She also opened the shows with her Spring 2026 collection, Sorrentino, at the Palacio de Cibeles, marking ten years since the opening of her Madrid boutique.
She then also expanded her boutique in Cartagena’s historic center, preserving the building’s architecture while adding a space curated by her daughter, Sofía Espinosa Tcherassi, who works alongside her in the family business.
Her designs continued traveling in 2026. In June, she partnered with Capri’s Grand Hotel Quisisana on an exclusive capsule collection. Serena Williams also wore her peach Rowan dress from the Pre-Fall 2026 collection in an Audemars Piguet campaign featuring J Balvin and Teyana Taylor.
Silvia once said she wanted to prove that a luxury fashion brand could be built “in Latin America, from Latin America and made in Latin America.” Nearly four decades later, she has done just that. With a presence in international fashion capitals and her daughter Sofía helping guide the business into its next chapter, Silvia continues to show that Colombian design belongs among the world’s most celebrated fashion houses.
