With the 2026 FIFA World Cup about to take over the summer, soccer fans around the world are getting ready to put on their jerseys and rep their country, but now, your pets can too. adidas has officially dropped a pet jersey collection that lets your dog, or cat, if they allow it, be part of the fun.
The collection includes mini versions of home jerseys from the Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Japan national football teams.
As for why they chose those teams, Argentina is returning as the reigning champs, while Mexico is one of the host nations.
Plus, Mexico has one of the biggest and most loyal fan bases in the world, especially across the U.S.
Japan's national football team also has a huge global fanbase, especially across Asia. They've been one of the most exciting World Cup teams in recent years, with big upsets and fast, technical play.
Same with Colombia's national football team. They bring huge energy, a passionate Latin American fanbase, and global stars like James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup
The 2026 tournament kicks off June 11 and runs through July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, marking the first time it’s hosted by three countries, and the first time it expands to 48 teams and 104 matches.
That scale changes everything. More teams means more underdog stories, more cities, and way more games to watch. It also means the tournament is less of a two-week event and more of a full summer takeover.
As for who’s actually expected to win, the usual heavy hitters are back in the mix. Spain is currently leading most odds boards, with France, England, Brazil, and Argentina right behind them. All participating federations have until May 11 to submit a preliminary list to FIFA.
There are huge names too, with Lionel Messi potentially making another World Cup run. Journalist Leandro Contento of La Nacion reported on Thursday, “The coach will include Messi in the list of 55 players that will serve as the starting point for the final 26-man squad, which must be submitted to FIFA before May 30."
Then there is Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to play in his sixth FIFA World Cup for Portugal, and Guillermo Ochoa, who could still have a role for the national team as a goalkeeper.
As noted by World Soccer Talk, Messi, Ronaldo, and Ochoa are all aiming to reach six World Cup appearances, something no player has ever achieved before.
Then, there are next-gen stars like Erling Haaland. Meanwhile, some athletes like Kylian Mbappé are battling injuries, leaving their future in the tournament unclear.
While we will have to wait and see who is officially hitting the pitch, it's going to be a historic World Cup. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said 500 million requests have been logged. "In the last two World Cups together, we had 50 million ticket requests. Here, 500 million," he said at the FIFA Congress on Thursday.
“We’ve sold 100 per cent of the inventory that we’ve put on the market, which is, more or less, 90 per cent of the global inventory so far,” he said. “And of course, we are always putting tickets on the market.”
