Oscar Isaac isn’t just bringing Frankenstein to life. The fan-favorite actor is reviving red carpet menswear and reshaping the reputation of the mullet while he’s at it.

At the Los Angeles premiere of 'Frankenstein,' Isaac stepped out in a striking custom tuxedo from ERL. The jacket followed classic cues, featuring a wide-lapeled silhouette with a soft, oversized velvet bow tie evoking Old Hollywood glamour.

But below the waist, the actor went for a baggier look. The hem hovered just above the floor, featuring unconventional tailoring that’s been steadily defining Isaac’s recent appearances.

The credit for this new era of Isaac’s style largely goes to stylist Matthew Henson, the creative mind also responsible for A$AP Rocky’s iconic quilted Met Gala look and The Weeknd’s 'After Hours' era.

Henson's signature is taking a standard look and giving it a modern twist. And he’s not the only one turning up in jumbo trousers. Hollywood’s wide-leg revolution is in full swing, with names like Brad Pitt, Kit Connor, and Channing Tatum all joining the trend.

Apart from the new menswear trend, the actor quietly debuted what may be the most refined mullet. The mini-mullet which is short in the front, subtle in the back, with just enough length to graze his collar.

And this season, the mini-mullet is everywhere. Jacob Elordi’s version leans beachy and relaxed. Paul Mescal rocks a slightly sharper, rugby-inspired cut. Oscar Isaac’s, by comparison, is more polished, but still carries that same air of coolness.

As much as Isaac’s aesthetic is commanding attention, the actor himself has been immersed in something far more intense, bringing Victor Frankenstein to life under the direction of Guillermo del Toro.

“It was the most fu--ing fun I've ever had in my life,” Isaac told SFX Magazine, describing the shoot. “Running around in the rain, up and down steps, this Christ-like thing on a crucifix, and Guillermo in the corner, screaming! It was hard to fathom that it was actually happening. It's such dark material, but was approached with so much joy. Like 14-year-olds had keys to the kingdom – it had that kind of energy to it.”

Del Toro’s version of Frankenstein promises more than just horror. According to Isaac, the filmmaker took a more emotional, layered approach. “[Guillermo] was much more interested in the emotional underpinnings of what the character means to him than the stuff we’ve seen, which I guess is ‘scientist gone mad,’” Isaac said.

“There's elements of that, but we approach it more as an artist. And really, this idea of generational abuse and trauma that gets passed down, and how he continues to pass that down towards his creation. And ultimately the reckoning that happens because of that," he added.
