Lady Gaga is releasing her seventh studio album

Gaga shared a press release where she discussed the inspiration behind the music.

“The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” she said. Gaga described the songwriting as “reassembling a shattered mirror: Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”

The record is produced by Gaga herself and her fiancé Michael Polansky, whom she has previously credited as one of the people who encouraged her to return to pop music.

“He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,’” Gaga said in an interview with Vogue.

Polansky also spoke with the publication and revealed when he encouraged her to return to the genre. "Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean into the joy of it,” he said. “On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

More details about 'Mayhem'

"Mayhem" marks Gaga's seventh studio record, and is made up of 14 songs.

The record follows "Chromatica," which came out in 2020. Over the past months, she released "Harlequin," an album inspired by her performance as Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie à Deux," and the single "Disease." She's also released a collaboration with Bruno Mars called "Die With a Smile," which will be featured in "Mayhem."
