Some Harry Potter fans are very upset with a possible HBO Max live-action TV series for fears over it potentially could “ruin their childhoods.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, a series based on  J. K. Rowling ’s novels are in early development.

Sources informed the publication that executives at the subscription on-demand streaming service explore the idea of bringing the fantasy film to television. However, specific writers and talents are not part of the alleged conversations. “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” HBO Max and Warner Bros. told the website.

Also, it is believed that J.K. Rowling, the creator and owner of the whole franchise’s copyright, might be the primary reason why the studio hasn’t go further.

Right after the news broke, Harry Potter fans took social media to share their feelings. “That Harry Potter news actually ruined my day, I won’t lie,” a person wrote on Twitter. ”I don‘t want a Harry Potter TV series; they’re probably gonna ruin it anyway whether it’s about the marauders or not please leave things as they are,” another one said.

Some others said they don’t need the series in their lives. “Tbh, I don’t want a Harry Potter TV series,” a fan wrote. ”I can just tell the harry potter TV series is gonna be awful ... just let the movies live with their legacy pls, don’t ruin it.”

“Ugh, why are people trying to ruin such a wonderful movie franchise?? Harry Potter (the original movies) was one of the first movies I remember watching as a child, and they’re amazing. There’s no need for a reboot or TV series,” another one added.

Contrary to the franchise fans who entirely opposed transforming the saga into a tv show, others are thrilled with the idea. “My dream has finally come true with a Harry Potter TV series in the works!? It always made me so sad that they left out major/minor plotlines from the books in the movie franchise. I’m honestly so excited! Even if it’s just a spin-off, I’m so over the moon,” a person tweeted.
