Rob Kardashian is used to his famous family making headlines, but after stepping back from the spotlight, he seemed very surprised by the public's reaction to his recent outing. The former Keeping Up With the Kardashians star recently went viral after attending Kim Kardashian’s 46th birthday celebration in Beverly Hills.
While fans were excited to see the famously private Kardashian brother looking healthy and out with his family, Rob had a very different take on the photos.
During a phone call livestreamed by his ex-girlfriend, Blac Chyna, real name Angela White, on Kick on October 24, the mother of Rob’s 9-year-old daughter, Dream Kardashian, brought up the online reaction to his appearance.
“Oh, and I wanted to tell you, too, I seen your pictures, too, on the internet,” Chyna said. “And everybody’s like, ‘Ooo, Rob! Rob!’ They’re going crazy over you.”
Rob seemed genuinely puzzled by the attention, responding, “I don’t know why they’re saying that, ’cause I felt like I looked crazy. But it’s OK.”
Chyna reassured her ex that the pictures were worth the hype. “Nah, never, you’re being modest,” she told him. “The pictures were fire.”
The 39-year-old reiterated his feelings, saying, “No, that’s just how I feel. But it’s all good. All good.”
Rob Kardashian’s rare public appearance gets fans talking
Rob joined his mother, Kris Jenner, and sisters Kim, Khloé, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner for Kim’s birthday dinner at Baldi at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills on October 20.
He wore a black baseball cap and was photographed with a large smile on his face, looking happy and healthy.
Rob rose to fame with his sisters when Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiered in 2007, but his relationship with the public changed over the years. He eventually withdrew from many of the family's public appearances and became less involved in filming. He has also experienced a very public journey with his health and weight.
His struggles with his weight were documented on the family's reality series, and he previously discussed health challenges, including a type 2 diabetes diagnosis in 2015.
Following his birthday outing, a source told PEOPLE that Rob had been focusing on his health and was doing well.
Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna give a glimpse into co-parenting Dream
The viral photos weren't the only topic Rob and Chyna discussed during their livestreamed phone call. The former couple also caught up about their daughter, offering another glimpse into their co-parenting dynamic.
When Chyna mentioned that people had been asking where Dream was, she explained that the 9-year-old was already in bed. “Yeah, she's in bed asleep,” he said. “We just went to bed. Now it's my turn. We’re gonna go to bed and get up for school.”
The father-daughter duo also had plans for a family activity the following day. Rob revealed that he and Dream were going to paint pumpkins at one of his sisters' houses, prompting Chyna to request a personalized creation of her own.
“Paint me one,” she told him, asking for a pumpkin with facial piercings, bangs, and long nails. “Paint it and put some piercings in the face for me,” she said. “And put a bang on it and some long nails.”
Rob was happy to entertain the request but suggested that Dream would be the one to bring the artistic vision to life. “She’s the creative one. She’ll do it,” he said.
Rob and Chyna began dating in 2016 and welcomed Dream that November before splitting the following year. Their breakup was followed by years of legal disputes and public conflict, including Chyna's $100 million defamation lawsuit against the Kardashian-Jenner family. A jury ultimately found in favor of the family in 2022.
In more recent years, however, the former couple have appeared to develop a more amicable co-parenting relationship, and judging by the phone call, are on great terms.
