Tom Cruise got a front-row seat to Taylor Swift’s football knowledge when the two stars watched Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos.
The Top Gun star, 64, sat alongside Swift, 36, in her VIP suite at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during the Chiefs’ first game of the NFL season on Monday.
Naturally, sitting next to one of the world’s biggest pop stars while watching her husband play football raised a question for Jimmy Fallon.
During Cruise’s Thursday appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host asked him what happens when “the biggest movie star in the world” sits beside “the biggest artist in the world.”
According to Cruise, they talked football, movies and music, but Swift apparently had plenty to teach him about the game.
“She was schooling me on football,” Cruise said.
When Fallon asked if he was serious, Cruise quickly confirmed, “For real.”
Cruise Calls Swift A “Genius”
Cruise had nothing but praise for Swift, describing the singer as a “genius” and “brilliant” while reflecting on their night at the game.
“She was bringing the football,” he said.
The actor also admitted that he hadn’t attended a football game since before the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was busy working.
“I hadn't been to a football game since pre-COVID, where I was working and everything,” Cruise explained. “So to get to hang out there and have that moment, it was a lot of fun. She knows her stuff.”
Cruise also had plenty of love for the people surrounding Swift and Kelce in the suite.
“Everybody there, all their friends, they're a beautiful couple and magical in their own right,” he said.
Swift Once Had To Learn The Game
While chatting with Fallon, Cruise also recalled something Swift had previously told him about her relationship with Kelce.
Before dating the NFL star, Swift wasn’t exactly a football expert. Cruise said she once explained to him how patient Kelce had been while she learned the sport.
“She said, ‘You know, he's so patient,’” Cruise recalled.
Cruise responded, “I'm sure he was,” before joking that pretty much anyone would have been patient with her.
These days, however, Swift apparently has the football thing down.
“[Now] she knows [about football] ... she's just bringing it,” Cruise said.
They Talked More Than Football
The conversation between Cruise and Swift wasn’t all about touchdowns and plays, either.
The actor said the pair also talked about their respective worlds in music and movies, and he praised Swift’s talents across the board.
“She’s funny. She’s got such a great sense of humor,” Cruise said. “A brilliant writer also, by the way. Brilliant musician and director. Very skilled.”
And this apparently wasn’t Cruise’s first major Swift-Kelce event.
The actor was also among the star-studded guests at the couple’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
