Shakira has officially landed in Madrid, and her arrival signals the start of one of the biggest stretches of concerts the Spanish capital will see this year. The Colombian superstar arrived at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport on Monday, September 14, just days before beginning a 12-show Madrid residency tied to her hugely successful Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.
The concerts begin Friday, September 18, and continue through October 11. Her airport arrival was anything but quiet.

Shakira stopped to greet supporters and even showed off a few dance moves during the colorful welcome.
For Shakira, however, the return to Spain carries more than professional significance. She told reporters that she had spent some of the most important years of her life in the country and expressed gratitude for the support she has continued to receive from Spanish fans.

Calling this simply another tour stop would be an understatement. Shakira is scheduled to perform 12 concerts in Madrid on September 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27, followed by October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11. The performances will take place at the temporary Estadio Shakira within the Iberdrola Music complex in Villaverde. Madrid's official tourism site says the venue was built specifically for the residency.
The shows mark Shakira's major return to Spanish stages after years away. According to EL PAÍS, her previous concert appearance in Spain was during the El Dorado World Tour in Barcelona in July 2018.

The scale means Shakira is not merely returning to Spain. For nearly a month, Madrid effectively becomes the European home of her tour.
Shakira brings Colombian culture to Madrid with Macondo Park
The concerts are only part of Shakira's plans. Alongside the performances, fans will experience Macondo Park, an ambitious cultural space designed to celebrate contemporary Latin culture through music, food, literature, art, film and other activities. The experience is scheduled to run for approximately 12 hours on each concert day, beginning at noon.

Shakira has also brought a piece of her hometown of Barranquilla to the Spanish capital. The singer said each concert night will conclude with a celebration inspired by the Carnival of Barranquilla, connecting one of Colombia's best-known cultural traditions with her Madrid residency.
Macondo Park will feature additional musicians, writers and cultural figures, transforming the residency into something closer to a month-long Latin cultural festival than a conventional series of stadium concerts.

The Shakira effect is reaching beyond the concert venue. A SiteMinder analysis reported by Notimérica projects that the 12 concerts will increase hotel booking demand in Madrid by approximately 14.8 percent during the residency period compared with the same period a year earlier. Average hotel room prices are projected to rise about 19.7 percent.
Madrid officials are also preparing for the transportation challenges that come with tens of thousands of fans arriving on each concert date.
