Amal Clooney made a glamorous return to the red carpet, but it was her affectionate interaction with husband George Clooney that delivered one of the sweetest moments of the evening.
After serving a series of chic Mediterranean looks during the couple’s Italian vacation, the 48-year-old human rights lawyer embraced full Hollywood glamour at the opening of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on Wednesday, September 2.
Amal joined George at the premiere of Ink, where the longtime couple put on a loving display while posing for photographers. At one point, she gently placed her hand against the side of her husband’s face as they smiled on the carpet.
In other photographs, the pair wrapped their arms around one another, with George keeping a hand around Amal’s waist. Nearly 12 years after their lavish Venice wedding, the husband and wife appeared as playful and connected as ever.
Amal’s red carpet look:
For her return to the festival carpet, Amal commanded attention in a floor-length black gown that celebrated her figure with a fitted silhouette and densely ruched fabric.
The understated design featured a straight neckline supported by delicate spaghetti straps, along with a second pair of slender straps that fell loosely around her upper arms. The subtle off-the-shoulder effect added movement and an alluring touch to the otherwise streamlined creation.
Amal kept the monochromatic styling polished with pointed black pumps and a slim rectangular clutch. Dangling emerald earrings introduced a striking flash of color, while a coordinating green cocktail ring and delicate diamond bracelet provided the finishing touches.
Her signature beauty look:
The lawyer returned to one of her beauty signatures for the occasion, wearing her long brunette hair in glossy, voluminous waves. Styled with a side part, soft curls and caramel-toned highlights, her hair flowed over one shoulder and created a classic Old Hollywood effect.
Her makeup complemented the glamorous mood with defined brows, smoky brown eyeshadow and fluttering lashes. Warm bronzer illuminated her complexion, while a softly lined nude lip completed the look.
George, 65, coordinated with his wife in a traditional black tuxedo, pleated white shirt and black bow tie.
The evening held special significance for the actor and filmmaker, who received the festival’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the opening ceremony. George had previously revealed that he planned to celebrate the recognition by dressing up and enjoying a special dinner with Amal.
Venice also holds deeply personal memories for the couple. Amal and George tied the knot at the Aman Canal Grande in September 2014, and the actor described their wedding as his favorite memory in the Italian city.
Their latest appearance marked the glamorous continuation of an Italian summer filled with romantic outings and memorable fashion. Amal was recently photographed alongside George at the historic Villa Passalacqua in Lake Como, where she carried a flower as the couple enjoyed their Mediterranean getaway.
She later arrived in Venice wearing a luxurious olive satin short suit from Tom Ford. However, for her red carpet return, Amal left her relaxed vacation separates behind and embraced timeless black-tie elegance, with her longtime partner, George.
