George and Amal Clooney have been affected by the wildfires that have struck France. The couple evacuated their home in Brignoles alongside their children, Alexander and Ella, 9, after wildfires struck regions in Spain, France, Italy and Greece.
© Eliot Press/The Grosby GroupThe family shared the news of their evacuation in a letter to the mayor of Brignoles. “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” reads the letter, as published by PEOPLE.
“As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things: first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole."
“We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

The fires affecting France have resulted in the evacuation of 224,000 people in the Gironde region of France, and 3,000 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, as reported by CNN. As of this writing, the wildfires have reportedly been stabilized, with there being a risk of the fires spreading further in Greece and Italy.
George and Amal's decision to live in France
© Getty Images for FLCGeorge and Amal Clooney have numerous homes. Last year, they were based in New York for a few months while Clooney was working on the Broadway play "Good Night, and Good Luck." Still, the family's main residence is a farm in France, which George says is a better experience for his children.
“A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” he said in an interview with Esquire. “But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
He also revealed that he didn't want his kids to grow up in Los Angeles and the Hollywood culture, where the majority of his industry is based.
“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he said. “France — they kind of don’t give a s--- about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
