Victoria Beckham is opening up about motherhood and why she has never pressured her children to follow a specific career path. In a new interview with The Times, the fashion designer reflected on raising the four children she shares with husband David Beckham: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
“There’s a big difference between supporting children with what they want to do and forcing them,” Victoria explained. “All we’ve ever done with any of the children is support them, help them and encourage them.”
The 52-year-old entrepreneur said she feels proud watching each of her children discover their own passions and identities rather than trying to live up to outside expectations. “I’m so proud that they’ve all found what they love, their passion and their sense of purpose,” she said.
Why Victoria Beckham Never Forced Her Kids Into Soccer
Despite growing up with one of the most famous soccer players in the world as their father, Victoria revealed that she and David never expected their sons to follow the same path. “The three boys used to play football and one by one they decided it wasn’t for them and that’s okay, whatever makes them happy,” she shared. “I just want them to feel fulfilled.”
That mindset has shaped the Beckham children’s very different career choices. Brooklyn Beckham has focused on culinary content and launched his hot sauce brand, Cloud23, in 2024. Romeo Beckham has stepped into the fashion world as a model, while Cruz Beckham fronts his own band, Cruz Beckham and The Breakers.
Victoria acknowledged that her children are in a “very fortunate” position because they have the freedom to pursue creative careers and ambitious goals. She added that she constantly encourages them to “dream big and dream even bigger.”
The Beckham Family’s Traditional Parenting Style
Victoria recently expanded on her parenting philosophy during an appearance on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast earlier this month. “I think that it’s very different parenting adult children to parenting smaller children,” she explained. “I’m just trying to do the best that I can.”
She also addressed how years of living in the spotlight influenced the kind of mother she wanted to become. “We don’t put any pressure on our kids, we just want them to do what they love and to work hard and to be happy,” Victoria said.
According to the beauty mogul, the Beckhams still maintain surprisingly traditional family habits despite their global fame. “We’re a traditional family,” she shared, explaining that they prioritize sitting down together for dinner and talking about their day. “Being very close is really, really important to us.”
Communication, she added, has always been central to her parenting approach. “Communication is really key,” Victoria said. “I’ve always wanted to be the best mom that I could be.”
Family Tensions Continue With Brooklyn Beckham
Victoria’s latest comments arrive amid continued reports of tension within the Beckham family involving eldest son Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. Earlier this year, Brooklyn publicly accused his parents of attempting to interfere in his marriage and relationship.
In a series of Instagram Stories posts shared in January, he alleged that Victoria and David tried to “endlessly ruin” his relationship with Nicola and claimed they attempted to “bribe” him into “signing away the rights” to his name.
Brooklyn also accused Victoria of “hijacking” his wedding dance with Nicola during their 2022 wedding celebration. “I do not want to reconcile with my family,” Brooklyn wrote at the time. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Victoria has largely remained silent publicly regarding the family dispute, making her newest comments about support, communication, and allowing her children to choose their own paths especially notable.
