Katie Holmes and her mom Kathleen made for a stylish sight in New York earlier this week. The pair was photographed for a daytime outing, dressed up elegantly as they took stopped by the American Ballet Theatre's Spring Gala.
Both women wore dresses that showcased their distinct styles. Holmes opted for a white and dramatic gown that was the perfect blend of elegance and restraint. While the color and the top half were traditional, featuring some thin straps and patterns on the fabric, the bottom half added some flair with a double skirt and a lenght that reached all the way down to her ankles.
Holmes styled her hair wavy and shiny, completing the look with a silver necklace and a black clutch purse. She wore makeup that emphasized her eyes and completed the look with cream colored heels.
Her mother Kathleen opted for a brown dress with black and blue patterns. She held on to her cane throughout the evening and styled her short grey hair in spikes, completing the look with jewelry and red glasses. She wore some velvet blue flats.
As Holmes smiled for the cameras, she guided her mother forward with a hand on her back. She then posed for some photos on the sidewalk, revealing that the dress had some pockets.
Holmes and her mother attended the American Ballet Theater Spring Gala, hosted on May 20th. Holmes was being honored at the event as an advocate and patron of the arts and was accompanied by many of her friends. “A longtime friend of the Company, Holmes is a passionate advocate for the arts whose work reflects a deep appreciation for creativity and storytelling,” reads a statement from the theater. “Her connection to ABT underscores a genuine love of classical ballet and a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists.”
Holmes shared special moments from the gala
A day after the gala, Holmes took to Instagram to share how much she enjoyed her time out. On her stories and posts, Holmes shared photos of her friends and her mom at the event, including some photos of the two at the table and spending time with other guests at the gala. Holmes also shared videos of the ballet performances that were featured throughout, sharing her admiration for the dancers and the story.
In her Instagram post, Holmes shared a photo of the people at her table, showing her smiling alongside her mom. "What a special night ABT Official with my beautiful friends. And thank you Mark Seliger for capturing our tribe," she wrote.
Holmes' life in New York
While Katie Holmes is one of New York's most emblematic contemporary figures, she first rose to fame in Los Angeles while working on the TV show "Dawson's Creek." Holmes acquired fame through her acting work and only moved to New York after she had her daughter, Suri Cruise, seeking a more private life.
In the years since, Holmes achieved her goal, becoming one of New York's key figures in the film and fashion world and a regular sight at some of the city's most prestigious arts events. In the past couple of years, she's directed and written various New York-set movies and performed in various Broadway plays. She's also enjoyed her life with her daughter Suri, who recently celebrated her 20th birthday and is now a student at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Suri frequently visits her mother and travels back home on holiday breaks and special occasions.
