Katie Holmes is keeping it real when it comes to beauty, style, and getting ready in the morning to conquer the world. The 47-year-old actress and mom of one took to social media to give fans a candid look into her everyday makeup routine.
In a new Instagram video posted over the weekend, Holmes reveals she still struggles with blush placement and eyebrow symmetry. The star, dressed in a white terrycloth robe and makeup-free face, walked viewers through her low-key beauty process while applying concealer, foundation, blush, lip liner, and gloss. “In daily life, I do very minimal makeup because I don't feel that confident in my ability to put on makeup,” Holmes admitted. “Also, I’m a 90s kid. That was cool back then, and I guess I still think it’s the 90s.”
© Katie HolmesThe actress revealed she still leans on professional advice from her longtime makeup artist Genevieve when it comes to mastering blush placement. “My amazing makeup artist, Genevieve, is still giving me lessons on how to apply blush,” Holmes shared. “And I'm 40 something years old and I'm still learning. She says, always just a little dot on the nose, kind of like salt when you're cooking. Throw it back.”
Holmes also credited her former Broadway co-stars, Zoey Deutch and Michelle Wilson, for helping her improve her eyebrow game during their run in “Our Town.”
“When we were doing Our Town together, every night I would go and say, how did I do on my brows?” she laughed. “Yeah, I usually have one good night of brows.”

A Life Away from Hollywood
The actress also reflected on her long relationship with New York City, where she has lived on and off since 2012. While she recently escaped the cold by spending three months in San Diego, she admitted she still loves the chaos and mood swings that come with winter in Manhattan. “New York is just, I don't know, it's the best,” Holmes said. “I’ll be back next year. I will be with everyone. I will do the snow angels, and I will go to the park, and then I will be grumpy. Like everyone. I love it.”
Holmes also opened up about her relaxed approach to fashion. She compared her morning mindset to men who “don’t spend that much time getting dressed in the morning or thinking about it,” while explaining how city life continues to shape her signature effortless style.

Katie said nature sometimes influences her wardrobe choices. Holmes described spotting a rosebud bush that reminded her of sherbet ice cream. As she applied lip gloss near the end of the video, she noticed the shade name was “rose,” prompting another laugh. “Wow, this shade is called rose, which I didn't plan. I wish I had. That would have been really smart.”

Holding up her lip gloss, she added, “They're all sort of the same family, which makes life very confident-making like, oh, I know I did that right.”
“And I feel really, you know, ready,” she concluded.
