Sharon Stone is opening up about her past, with details about her life and family. On paper, her lineage traces back to royalty. During an appearance on Finding Your Roots in 2025, she learned that her ancestry connects her to some of the most powerful figures in history, including Charlemagne. While she may have royal roots, in reality, she grew up with very little.

© GettyBut that legacy didn’t translate into security. A tragic accident changed everything. “They were drilling an oil well, and it blew and killed everyone,” she said. "All of a sudden, his mother and her three kids, well, they didn't get the money because the money didn't go to women. The women didn't have rights."
After that, the family’s fortune was out of reach. “The women didn’t have rights,” she added, explaining that the money went to an 18-year-old male relative instead of her grandmother.
What followed was a complete shift in their reality. Her grandmother was forced to rebuild from nothing, working as a nurse while raising her children in what Stone described as a barn stall. “My dad was working… and he eventually bought back the family home,” she said, noting that it had fallen into ruin by then.

Looking back, Stone says that shaped everything. “There was a lot of dysfunction in my family,” she admitted, describing both parents as having been “semi-orphaned.
