A Texas Love Story: Thomas J. Henry and Dr. Elena Alvarez Westwood Say “I Do”

After ¡HOLA! had the chance to join Thomas J. Henry and Dr. Elena Alvarez-Westwood during their unforgettable engagement celebration in Puerto Rico, where Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, and Enrique Iglesias turned the night into a private concert, it was clear their love story was destined for a grand stage. While their San Juan introduction was a whirlwind of Caribbean energy, their wedding in the heart of Texas revealed something just as compelling. Beneath the cinematic scale, there was a deeply personal, almost disarming intimacy that transformed a high-profile event into a family homecoming.

On April 4th, the couple exchanged vows at Henry Skull Creek Ranch in Medina, where the Texas Hill Country stretches endlessly toward the horizon. At the heart of the setting, a custom-built glass sanctuary rose from the earth, a modernist marvel designed to pull the canyon and vast sky into the room. Yet for the couple, the most defining moments had little to do with the architecture.

Elena felt the weight of the journey most acutely while walking down the aisle with her father. "Having my dad walk me over to him was so beautiful," she shared, noting the significance of his travel to Texas at his age. "The most emotional part was saying our vows. When I heard, ‘I declare you husband and wife,’ it landed with such a quiet finality. Seeing our children truly understanding that we are on this journey for life... it was surreal."

The Wedding Atmosphere 

To bring their vision to life, the ranch was transformed into a sleek, modern estate. The whole “Event Center” including the ceremony, reception, green rooms, production, catering, walk ways, view decks, loading docs, et all 30,000 sq ft.

Stepping into the reception ballroom, the scale shifted from expansive to immersive. Inside the 14,000-square-foot reception ballroom, the palette shifted to a deep, romantic glow. The centerpiece was a custom-built glass sanctuary that seemed to grow right out of the Texas soil, designed specifically to bring the beauty of the surrounding canyon and the endless sky inside.

Venetian chandeliers and monumental ceiling installations of crimson and fuchsia florals hung above the dance floor, where a dramatic 16-foot floral tree anchored the room, creating one more unforgettable visual statement in an evening full of them.

The room was washed in rich shades of crimson and fuchsia, with thousands of flowers cascading from the ceiling to create a lush, indoor garden.

Every corner had its own story, from a towering sixteen-foot floral tree that served as the heart of the room to a six-foot wedding cake designed to mimic the delicate lace of Elena’s dress.

The result was an atmosphere that was elegant and seamlessly flowed from the architecture to the table settings, proving that in their world, excellence is always in the details.

Even within the evening’s entertainment, the couple infused the celebration with their signature love of Latin music. Performances by Mark Ambor and Carlos Vives brought warmth and dynamic energy to the night, with Vives delivering a set of his most beloved hits that kept the rhythm lively and the atmosphere electric. The music carried through the ballroom, balancing the formal glamour of the setting with a spirit of celebration that felt at once elegant, festive, and distinctly international. 

The Bride’s "La Romance" Moment

At the heart of the day’s visual narrative was Elena in a bespoke Zuhair Murad gown. Inspired by "La Romance," the couture creation was a masterclass in delicate layering.

It featured a structured base paired with a voluminous overskirt and a sheer, long-sleeved blouse that seemed to float. More than 30 meters of intricate lace were hand-stitched into the design, with floral patterns blooming across silk tulle to match the ranch’s spring landscape.

Elena described the feeling of wearing the four-meter train and 4.5-meter veil as a dream she couldn't have imagined. The designer himself conducted her fitting in Paris just two days after his couture show. "He works his heart out," she noted. Inside the bodice, a hidden detail remained close to her heart: the names "Thomas and Elena" embroidered into the fabric.

This "couture meets country" aesthetic was woven throughout. Guests were welcomed by ranch cowboys on horseback performing rope tricks, while Texas Longhorns grazed nearby. Thomas and Elena had spent months of late evenings side by side with a glass of wine, imagining this exact harmony. Even the weather seemed to understand the assignment; as they exchanged vows, the grey sky broke open, bathing the glass room in perfectly timed sunlight.

The Secret Soundtrack

While the world knows Thomas as a formidable attorney, his wedding revealed his role as a "covert lyricist." For months, he worked with producer Scott Erickson to write an original song for their first dance.

"We would go on walks along the ocean and I would say little things to her that were actually the lyrics," Thomas revealed with a laugh. "I didn’t want to dance to a borrowed story. I wanted something that was our own rhythm." Elena only realized the depth of the surprise when she saw the lyrics printed on her table. "I read it and I cried," she shared. "I had no idea a song was coming."

Laughter in the Hill Country

Despite the meticulous production, the most cherished memories were the unscripted ones. Thomas laughed while remembering the "fast and efficient" challenge of getting Elena into a Rolls Royce with the massive train of her dress for sunset photos.

However, the highlight? Getting a couture-clad bride onto a horse. "I was already on the horse and they were still wondering if I was sure!" Elena recalled, while Thomas hunted for the "strongest cowboy" to assist.

As midnight approached, a spectacular finale unfolded over the private lake, a symphony of water jets, 3G Productions lighting, and synchronized drones that displayed an infinity symbol and their names. But as the pyrotechnics faded, the couple’s focus returned to the simplicity of their partnership. Between Elena’s career as a radiologist and Thomas’s law firm, their lives are a constant hum of activity, moving between Texas and Puerto Rico.

When asked about their honeymoon plans, the couple shared that while the South Pacific Islands are on their horizon, their immediate focus remains grounded in family. With one of Elena’s sons preparing for college, Tom tenderly noted that his priority is being there to support her through that emotional transition, remarking, "My honeymoon is going to be holding her in my arms... when her baby goes off to college."

For Elena, the joy isn't tied to a specific map coordinate or trip, but to their meaningful partnership. "We’re always doing something together...our plates are full with things to do together with our kids and just being together." It is clear that for them, the celebration doesn't end with a luxury destination, but continues in the rhythm of their daily lives. 

They understand that their marriage is a portrait of a union built on the quiet understanding that the most meaningful parts of life are the ones experienced side by side.
