Chet Hanks is embracing country living, but he didn’t buy a farm or a mansion. The actor and musician revealed he has moved into a trailer park in Nashville, embracing RV life while pursuing his growing country music career.
During an April 28 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the “Running Point” star opened up about why he swapped traditional city living for a home on wheels. “I didn't want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it,” Hanks told Jimmy Fallon. “I didn't want to do that again, and I didn't want to furnish it.” The 35-year-old said he bounced between temporary rentals.
“I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space,” he explained.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son said that on his search for comfort, he found an unexpected spark during a stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. “I stayed in an Airstream trailer and I really loved it,” Hanks said. “I was like, ‘Man, I want one of these…’ So I did. I got a trailer.”
While he joked he is “not there yet” when it comes to owning an Airstream, Hanks said he is thrilled with his Jayco Eagle. “It has everything I need. I got my kitchen. I got, you know, a walk-in shower,” he said. “That’s a big deal with trailers… because sometimes they combine the toilet and shower. It’s called a wet bath.”

Hanks also pushed back on stereotypes surrounding trailer park living. “I’m probably, like, the youngest person in the trailer park by like 30 or 40 years,” he joked.
“It’s not what you think,” he said. “You think, oh, you're gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous. It’s all just, like retirees, you know? Great people.”
When Fallon asked whether he was taking advantage of trailer park amenities, Hanks admitted his day-to-day habits are surprisingly ordinary. “I do have a campfire outside of it. I have a fire pit, and I have used it,” he said. “But most of the time, I just do exactly what I do at home, which is just stay inside and lay in bed and watch Netflix and things like that.”
Hank appeared on Fallon to promote a new season of Netflix comedy “Running Point,” and his band Something Out West, performing at the 2026 Stagecoach Festival on April 25. “It was a big deal,” he said. “It was only our second performance ever.”
