There has been speculation for months about Travis Kelce's future in the NFL. After 13 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, the only franchise he’s ever known, insiders and fans were wondering if this could be his last ride.

13 years in the league is a long time for any position, especially a tight end at age 36, and in late 2025, he acknowledged he needed to take a “step back” and let the emotions of the season settle before figuring out what was next after they failed to make it to the Super Bowl. That contributed to speculation that the offseason might mark the end of his career.

However, He joined The Pat McAfee Show on March 10 to officially announce he’s returning to the game he loves. “Let’s go! Making another run at it, baby, and the Chiefs are making moves, Pat,” he declared.

“I’m still in love with this game,” he said, adding that his time away from the field was really just a chance to breathe, let his body and mind settle, and honestly assess what he wanted to do next. “It was pretty short and brief, and the Chiefs knew where I was the entire time,” he explained.

While NFL fans have had mixed reactions about Taylor Swift's appearances and impact on the franchise, we may have her to thank for his return. He spoke openly about how watching her work ethic influenced him during his decision-making process. “We share the same love for what we do, and we’ve had this… desire,” he said.

The ultimate power couple?

He described how “amazing” it is to watch her continue creating at the level she does. “It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies… and on top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does.”

“Yeah, of course that’s motivating,” he added. “That’s motivating for anyone to see, let alone my fiancée, and knowing that I’m going through something where I’m trying to figure out what exactly the future holds for me, something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what, I’m not done either.’”

What’s more, the Chiefs remain invested in him. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Kelce agreed to a one-year deal worth around $12 million with a chance to make up to $15 million.

There's no reason for them not to take Kelce back; he was still productive, leading the Chiefs last season with 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns. The Chiefs themselves struggled, finishing with a disappointing 6-11 record and missing the playoffs for just the second time in their long tenure.

He called it playing for the Chiefs again his "best opportunity" "running this thing back with Pat Mahomes and Coach Reid,” he said, referencing his friend and the team's quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. “And got my guy Eric Bieniemy, Coach Bieniemy back, and there’s a lot of pieces in Kansas City that I just absolutely love, and I can't wait to get back in the building with.”

The 107th season of the NFL is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2026, and will end on January 10, 2027.
