Belinda is officially stepping into a bold new era, and it starts with a transatlantic move that blends nostalgia, ambition, and a powerful career pivot. The Latin pop superstar has confirmed that she is leaving Mexico to relocate to Spain, marking one of the most important transitions of her life and career. With her upcoming role in the television series “Carlota,” Belinda is trading familiarity for transformation, and she is doing it with confidence and emotion in equal measure.

The move comes after a major 2025 that positioned Belinda as one of the most versatile artists in the Spanish-speaking entertainment industry. Between music, acting, and cultural impact, she ended the year stronger than ever. Now, 2026 is opening with a leap forward that places her back in her European roots while pushing her into a demanding and historic acting role.

“Goodbye Mexico… It makes me feel melancholic to change countries for a while, but at the same time, excited to live this new adventure in Spain. ‘Carlota’ is a big project for me. The last empress of Mexico!” she wrote in her stories.

Spain is not a random destination. It is where Belinda was born, and returning there carries emotional and professional weight. “Carlota,” is a high-profile Sony Pictures Television series and will require her to live and work in Spain for approximately six months. The project is designed as a ten-episode historical drama centered on Carlota of Mexico, one of the most fascinating and tragic figures in Latin American and European royal history.

For Belinda, this role is more than just another acting job. It is a statement. Playing the last empress of Mexico demands physical discipline, emotional depth, and historical understanding. She has already been undergoing intensive training to perfect her posture, movements, and aristocratic presence, proving how seriously she is taking this transformation.

The Visual That Sparked Global Attention

Along with her announcement, Belinda posted a photo from inside an airplane that quickly became a symbol of this transition. The image showed a sleek black quilted Chanel bag on the tray table, decorated with a Labubu charm, with the night sky visible through the window. It was a quiet but powerful visual, one that reflected both luxury and solitude, excitement and reflection.

She did not confirm whether she will be based in Madrid or another Spanish city, keeping that part of the journey private. What matters most is that the move itself signals a fresh chapter built around growth, challenge, and reinvention.

A Career Fueled by Momentum

Belinda’s decision to relocate comes at a moment when her career is thriving. In 2025, she was one of the standout stars of the Prime Video hit “Mentiras, La Serie,” which earned strong reviews and inspired special theatrical performances and cinema screenings. The show allowed her to showcase her comedic timing and dramatic range, further solidifying her reputation as a serious actress.

On the music side, her single “Heterocromía” added another layer to her public narrative. The video generated intense attention, especially due to rumors connecting the song to a wealthy Mexican heir. While Belinda has kept her personal life guarded, the release proved her ability to turn curiosity into artistic conversation, keeping her firmly in the spotlight.

Carlota as a Defining Role

What truly sets this moment apart is Carlota itself. The series is not just another streaming project. It is a prestige historical drama backed by Sony Pictures Television, directed by Alejandro Bazzano and Ana Lorena Pérez Ríos. The story explores power, identity, and the emotional cost of royalty, giving Belinda the kind of layered character that can redefine an acting career.

Belinda is Latin America's sweetheart

She has described Carlota as complex, demanding, and deeply challenging. After the success of “Mentiras,” this role represents a step into more dramatic, character-driven storytelling. It is the kind of performance that can attract international recognition and open doors far beyond Latin American entertainment.
