Sam Asghari might be known for being Britney Spears' ex-husband, but the artist is reminding the world that he was an actor first, and he's still chasing his dreams. The 31-year-old was Playgirl's December cover star, where she stripped down, showing off his chiseled body.
Asghari didn't just bare it all in the photos; he got deep during the interview, where he shared insight into his life as an Iranian immigrant who won the "Golden Ticket" by coming to the USA. “If you work hard and don’t pay attention to certain things, good things happen to you," he told Playgirl.
That Golden Ticket went even further when he was booked to star as Britney's love interest in her 2016 music video for “Slumber Party." It unlocked what he described as a “college crash course into fame.”
Looking back at their relationship, he said everything happened "so naturally and normally." He explained that he fell in love with her and tried to "make life happen," and was adamant that it didn't matter if she was “super famous or not famous at all.”
Despite the endless headlines filled with wild stories about their marriage, Asghari has always remained respectful towards his ex-wife. "The best thing you can do is celebrate the past, appreciate the past, and not dwell on the fact that it’s over,” he told the outlet. “Be happy it ever even happened.”
Asghari dealt with accusations that he was using Britney, like her father, Jamie Spears. But in the years they were together, Asghari had an inside look into Britney's world, "where people use any advantage [against] you.” "The worst thing you can do is to sort of take advantage of somebody when they’re down, and they’re low," he told the outlet.
He shared insight into the situation, possibly looking into some of the conversations he used to have with his ex-wife. “When you’re young, you’re sort of happy about what’s happening, happy about your work, and being able to express art,” he explained, adding, “But then it catches up to you." He shared that you don't know how to handle it because "the people that are in your circle are doing the most harm.”
Since the couple ended their six-year relationship in 2023, the actor and model has his eyes set on a long future in Hollywood, “I was acting before that relationship… and I will continue acting," he told the outlet. He also hopes to be a positive representative for nonwhite immigrants during this "tough time" in America.
“We have this administration that’s not really helping, and we have… those countries that are not really accepting of people that are different,” he told Playgirl. “So, I hope I’m a small help.”
