Nicole Kidman has been through the emotional equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, but she’s doing what Nicole Kidman does best. She is simply standing in the wreckage with luminous skin. During a November 24 interview with Ariana Grande, the Oscar winner offered a rare and disarmingly human update on how she’s coping after filing for divorce from Keith Urban.
The moment happened casually. Grande told her she looked beautiful, then tossed out the deceptively simple question: "How are you?" Kidman didn’t dodge. "I’m hanging in there," she said. "One day, we have to have dinner."
Where Things Stand After the Split
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban on September 30, requesting primary custody of their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. After nineteen years together, the unraveling of their marriage has been impossible to avoid. Rumors, theories, cryptic social media posts, and concert lyric changes have all been thrown into the pop culture stew.
According to reports, the breakup hit Nicole hard, but she’s already pivoting from heartbreak to what sources close to her are calling a major revenge glow-up.
Per MSN, a longtime friend said that Nicole had spent years trying to hold the marriage together, even as Keith drifted away emotionally. That pain has now turned into fuel. She is focused on feeling powerful again, emotionally and physically, reminding everyone she’s not just surviving the split but shining through it.
While her personal life has been under the microscope, her calendar hasn’t slowed down. Nicole has been showing up on red carpets, taking meetings, and returning to the rhythm of work. On October 4, she even presented Taylor Sheridan, her "Lioness" collaborator and close friend, with the Award of Inspiration at amFAR’s Dallas event.
Sources say she was in good spirits during her time in Texas. "[Nicole's] known Taylor for a couple of years. She considers him a dear friend. She enjoyed seeing him again," an insider shared at the time.
The Rumors She Isn’t Fighting
While neither Nicole nor Keith has publicly spelled out what ended their marriage, observers in Nashville and beyond have been connecting their own dots. Social media users pointed to Keith’s interactions with his guitarist, Maggie Baugh, ahead of the split, and sources close to Nicole have suggested she doesn’t dispute that there may be another woman in the picture.
To make matters splashier, Urban recently tweaked the lyrics of "The Fighter," a song originally written about Nicole, swapping her name for Maggie’s.
In a chat with Blake Shelton, Urban opened up about his notorious hairstyles and about the challenges of touring. "Where do we start? It's a calling, and you're going to do it, or you're not going to make it," he said.
"When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning, sick as a dog, in the middle of nowhere, and you've got to play your fifth show that night... missing your friends, your family, completely lonely and miserable... You ask yourself, 'Why am I doing this?" The only answer can be: Because this is what I'm born to do.'"
Kidman filed for divorce this September, citing "irreconcilable differences."
