Can Yaman is one of the most prolific international actors working today. The Turkish actor has worked in all sorts of countries, making Italian, Turkish, and now Spanish productions. In an appearance on the Spanish show "La Revuelta," Yaman showed off his Spanish skills and his impressive control of a language he started learning under a year ago.
Yaman speaks multiple languages: Turkish, Italian, English, and now, Spanish. "It was my dream to make a project here and I've been studying for a year," he said in Spanish, sharing that he's been working with a Spanish instructor for "five or six months."
He revealed that he's turned to film and television to boost his learning. "I've seen everything. Luis Zahera is my favorite because I love the Gallego accent. I also like Jose Coronado," he shared with the audience, mentioning some of his favorite Spanish actors.
Yaman also shared his secret to learning Spanish more efficiently, revealing that he created an anonymous profile on social media where he only followed Spanish social media sites. "I followed La Revuelta to learn with subtitles, but it brought me down because I didn't understand," he said with a laugh. "I asked my teacher, 'What is this guy saying? I don't understand.'" He then revealed some of his favorite Spanish expressions, making the audience laugh.
Yaman's life and career
Can Yaman's rise as an actor was completely unexpected. After studying at the Italian Lyceum in Istanbul, he decided to pursue a law degree, graduating after obtaining a sports scholarship for basketball. While vacationing in Turkey, Yaman met his agents by chance, changing his future and setting him on a new career path.
"I met my agents in a hotel," he shared. That meeting resulted in various hit TV shows like "Dolunay" and "Erkenci Kuş." After various successful productions in Turkey, Yaman began working with international directors and filmmakers, resulting in shows like "El Turco," a Turkish-Italian production led by Yaman as a soldier in the Janissary army based in Northern Italy.
Yaman's most recent production is "Sandokan," an international TV series and adaptation of Emilio Salgari's beloved books. The series stars Yaman as the titular pirate, who, alongside a crew of different characters, sails and fights through Southeast Asia. The series co-stars Alanah Bloor, Ed Westwick, and more.
