Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s messy divorce is somehow still going, and things are getting emotional. The exes are still tangled in a legal battle over their French estate, Château Miraval, and Jolie is opening up about the emotional and financial toll it’s taken on her.
© Getty Images for AFIIn court filings obtained by Page Six, Jolie detailed just how hard the split has been for her and their kids in response to Pitt's request that she provide private messages about their château dispute.
“The events leading to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children,” she wrote, seemingly referencing past allegations of abuse.
She added that when she filed for divorce, she gave Pitt control of their Los Angeles homes and Miraval without compensation, hoping it would "make him calmer in his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period.”

© Robin MarchantThe former couple bought Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, back in 2008, and they even got married there in 2014. In October 2021, Russian businessman Yuri Shefler’s company Tenute del Mondo announced it had purchased Jolie’s 50% stake in the estate and the wines it produces.
A few months later, in February 2022, Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie for selling her stake, seeking monetary damages, legal fees, and for the sale to be voided.
On the Miraval dispute itself, Jolie said that selling her stake or negotiating a buyout was “always difficult” because of her deep emotional ties to the estate.
“Miraval was one of the first major investments we made together, and it was a focal point of our family life,” she explained. "I spent part of my pregnancy there, and I brought our twin children home there from the hospital. To have such a sudden break from my home and memories has been hard, and it was especially difficult for the children to have their lives so disrupted," she wrote.
She described trying to rebuild stability for the family, renting a home while looking for something permanent, all while her savings were tied up in the estate.
Jolie also highlighted the sacrifices she made for her children, saying she declined work for about two years to focus on their recovery and never asked Pitt for alimony or financial support.
She added that she was so financially strained she couldn’t buy a home outright for herself and the kids in Los Angeles - allegedly prompting Pitt to loan her money “with interest.”
© GettyFinally, Jolie is seeking $33,000 from Pitt to cover legal fees she had to pay responding to his motion demanding private messages about Miraval. According to her attorneys, Pitt refused repeated requests to withdraw the motion, forcing Jolie to rack up “substantial attorneys’ fees” in the process.
