Ozempic and Mounjaro have become one of Hollywood's favorite prescription drugs. With stars shrinking away, some have been more than happy to talk about it, and others have kept it to themselves. Kathy Bates is one of those talking about her use of Ozempic, but she's not going to let people take away all the hard work she did on her own before the drug.
© GettyThe 77-year-old has dropped around 100 pounds over the last few years following a 2017 diabetes diagnosis. She's also a cancer survivor, and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012.
With her new figure, she told Variety that people want to credit it all to Ozempic and make comments with a negative annotation. “People say, ’Well, it was the Ozempic.’ F**k you, it was the Ozempic!" The Matlock star said.
But Bates explained she has been on her weight loss journey for some time, "It took me years to do this," she said. Everything changed for her when she got her diabetes diagnosis, something that has affected her family. "My father died of it; his mother died of it; one of my sisters is in peril," she said.
© GettyHearing the word made her turn her life around. "When they said ’diabetes,’ I figured out what to do slowly, over the years, to lose the weight," she said. Bates said when Ozempic "came along," she was already down a lot of weight, and Ozempic helped her lose "the last 15 to 20 pounds," and she was able to keep it off.
Like Rosie O'Donnell, it's hard to process her new body. She told the outlet her brain still can't wrap her head around how much smaller she is, and she can get emotional.
© GettyShe shared a story about when her stylist presented her with a new stylish wardrobe. “She had a beautiful dress for me to try. I looked at it on the hanger, and I thought, ’That’s not gonna fit,'" she recalled. "I put it on, and it fit, and I just melted down,” Bates said, explaining that she couldn't stop crying.
© GettyThe moment made her wonder why she had carried the extra weight to begin with. "I’m still figuring out what it’s like to be without all of that weight. What was it for? What was I hiding myself from? What are the emotions that are pouring out because I don’t have that armor? It just really surprised me, really shocked me," the Misery star continued.
