Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan filed for divorce in 2018, but both kept things very private. Seven years later, Tatum briefly talked about their split before stopping himself from sharing too much.

Tatum stars in Roofman, which is out on October 10th.  He plays Jeffrey Manchester, a real-life criminal who lived in a Toys "R" Us in Charlotte, NC, for six months after he broke out of prison for robbing a McDonald’s to provide for his daughter.

The 45-year-old shares 10-year-old Everly with Dewan, and while the details of their divorce settlement are private, it seems like they have shared custody. In an interview with Variety, when asked about Manchester’s estrangement from his daughter, Tatum said it's something he can relate to. "I know for a fact I’m able to understand it," he said.

The Magic Mike star went on to share that while he and his ex-wife Jenna, "are good now," it was "a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young."

"We tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half, but we knew it was," he continued before stopping himself. With him and Dewan living apart, he says he wishes he didn't have to be away from Everly. “Not to go into all that. It’s in the past. But it’s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time.”

The father of 1 said he considered not playing Gambit in the new Avengers movie because he didn't want to be away from her. When he does decide the role is worth it, he reminds his daughter it's an opportunity and asks her, “Did Daddy get to go to work? Or did he have to go to work?” “Those are two different sentences," he explained.

Tatum and Dewan met on the set of Step Up and welcomed Everly in 2013. After announcing their separation, Dewan filed for divorce in October 2018, and they reached a custody agreement in January 2020.

But their divorce wasn't settled and finalized until September 2024.  Both agreed to waive spousal support, as they avoided a trial that was set for December.

One of the biggest conversations was regarding earnings from Tatum's Magic Mike franchise. Per People, Dewan's lawyers claimed that she is still entitled to earnings, noting Tatum developed and co-financed it during their marriage "with community effort and marital funds."

Following their split, Dewan found love with Steve Kazee, and they got engaged in February 2020. They share Callum, 5, and Rhiannon Lee Kathryn Kazee

As seen by the fact that his divorce took six years, marriages and the end of them can be taxing and expensive. Tatum, who has been dating 25-year-old Inka Williams since February, shared his thoughts about the possibility of getting married again. He told Vanity Fair in 2023, “I don’t know if I’m ever going to get married again."

“Relationships are hard for me... Even though I am a bit of a monogamist. In business, I have no real fear of anything being destroyed. But heart things, when it comes to people I love, I have a really hard time. I end up trying too hard, you know?” He continued.
