Even Joe Jonas gets intimidated by dating. The 35-year-old has been single since he filed for divorce from Sophie Turner on September 5, 2023, and as one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, he got back into the dating scene, which stirred up some emotions and inspired his art.
Joe releases his solo album Music for People Who Believe in Love on Friday, and in a new interview, he sheds light on his own views on the matter. One of the tracks on the song is called “Only Love” and is inspired by something someone he was dating said.
While it sounds like he and the unnamed person are no longer dating, they made a mark - and now have the pride of knowing they have a song about them. “I was seeing somebody at the time, and I was kind of having this idea of dating again. It was really scary and intimidating,” he said on a TalkShopLive.
It was during a time, he says, he was re-discovering love after four years of marriage and fatherhood. The divorced couple shares daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2. “Love takes different shapes and forms, and I was re-discovering what that was.”
When he expressed his concerns to the person, he said they “comically” put the situation at ease, saying, “Well, it’s only love.” “I was like, ‘Well when you put it that way…’ So we wrote a song about it,” he explained.
The sentiment helped him realize it's okay to take a chance. “Like, it was not a big deal, but it was a big deal to me and a big deal to them, too. But it’s okay to take a leap of faith and just try again and put yourself out there,” the father of 2 continued.
The song was so important to him that he decided it was best for his solo album and not with the Jonas Brothers. But first, he got their permission and sat down with Kevin and Nick, “I said, ‘Hey, look, I would like the opportunity to see what this is like for me," he recalled.
"I know it could be Brothers, but I also keep seeing my own life when I hear it, and I’m seeing that person that I was seeing, and I just don’t know if I want to change any of the lyrics to match it with what you’re going through,” the singer explained. Sure enough, he got their blessing.
Who could have inspired the song?
As for who Joe could be talking about, he briefly dated model Stormi Bree from January 2024 before they split in June 2024.
Following the split, he sparked rumors with a beautiful Lebanese actress named Laila Abdallah when they were spotted getting very cozy on vacation in Greece, but it seemed like a summer fling.
